Line 6 HX Effects

My setup for church retreat this weekend.

Dual rigs is where it's at!
Love mine and was wondering if I'll keep it once I go HX. But I'm so used to it that I most likely will. Having an always-on clean signal is better than any blend and the spatial "depth" of two rigs is it's own thing that I really don't want to give up. To me it's worth the hassle of the extra gear.
Hmmm. I don’t need a dual bass rig. But I would love to run an octave-up signal to a guitar amp. The helix might be perfect for that. Have any of you tried that? It seems it would work great to fill things in when the guitarist solos.

Dude! Please share this patch, blocks and settings. That sounds rad!!!!!! I wants
Here's a version:

My TC Electronic Sub'N'Up is in FX Loop2, just swap that block if you have an octaver in a different loop, or if you don't have on you could try a Pitch block (won't work as well, as it's not polyphonic).
I put in Minotaur as a boost, but in my own version I'll tweak the boost in my octaver pedal.
I'm planning to measure where the Minotaur boosts exactly and replicate that in the octaver to free up a block.
In my own version I tend to use a Simple Pitch block there with a momentary switch so I can pedal in some power chords while keeping the base at one note.

I checked out the Marketplace today. While I understand why it has been implemented, I don't like the idea.
Buying IRs is fine I guess as work went into providing emulations of gear we do not have access to.
However, (and this is a personal thing) I never liked the idea of selling patches. With high end gear like the Helix, patches don't really have that baked in sound anymore, as all the simulations tend to respond well to the instruments. So what the Marketplace is selling is just ideas that have to be tweaked after purchasing.
Sure I can decide if I want to purchase these ideas or not, but since I just shared one of my ideas here I wanted to share my feelings about this.

I can understand people that don’t have the ability or time to sit down and tweak buying patches but I pretty much agree with you. While I was playing around with Native I watched some videos and came across Jason Sadites dialing in a Marshall sound I really liked. I watched the video and made notes of all his settings and copied them exactly but with my guitar it sounded completely different. While it was a good learning experience because I got some tips and tricks that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise I had further tweak his settings to make it sound good with my guitar.

I agree about the patches being on sale. I just think that's a way for people to cash in. Whatever. Some people aren't that great at building patches and it's worth $20 to them. I'm more interested in the IR's like you. I really hope they offer something in the way of amp and cab model packages for the HX. I know they will never include them in the HX stock or in an update. They should at least give us the option if we wanted it. Like I said, I would gladly spend some money to throw a few amp and cab sims on my HX. Just more ways to tone shape IMO. For me it has nothing to do with me already using an amp and a cab so that reason, for guys like me, isn't a reason at all.

Thanks for sharing. I'll mess with it tonight. Do you ever throw any of your patches up on Custom Tone?? I don't have the Sub-n-Up but I do have a whammy!

I was actually messing with that a little the other day. I posted on the L6 forums about running a duel bass rig so hopefully I'll get some feedback on that soon. I need to figure out the best way to run it. I have a hard time wrapping my head around it sometimes. I'm sure if I want to run the second rig out of the send or if I should run it in stereo or what... And I'm getting all jumble headed when I'm trying to run some effects to the 2nd rig and not the first. Know what I mean?

No, I don't usually have time to mess with patches much and my board usually lives in our practice space where we do not have any internet access. As I mentioned the whole point of sharing this one was to share the thought process so that others may benefit from some things when building patches as well.

In my main preset, I have a split Y to create a path B for parallel effects. On path B, I have an octave up, eq, distortion, and delay. Right now I just merge (Mixer block) this back into the A path. But in the Mixer block you can set the Path B Output to go to Send 12. Is that what you're doing? That way you could get two sets of stereo outputs (Main L/R and Send 1/2).

It would be an amazing setup to have a bass amp (or two) in the middle, and a guitar amp on each side of the stage with stereo chorus going between them. I'd be happy with just my bass rig and a small tube combo amp for the "guitar" Send 1 output, set a few feet away for some nice spatial separation.

Any recommendations for a good sounding small combo for the guitar signal? I'd like to be able to get the clean Fender "chime" and also a more muscular distorted tone. My first thought was a small 112 Fender tube amp, 25 watts or so.

Oh hell yes man, I’m going to mess with this tonight. See how it sounds. Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve kinda been waiting for someone to give me a roadmap so to speak to follow. This is my first venture into duel amp setups and I think I tend to overthink it. Then I shut down and walk away. All I really needed was an example to follow then I think my mind would wrap around the concepts better. Hopefully this was all I needed to get where I want to get. Thanks dude!!

As far as the guitar amp, I’m not sure man. Idk much at all about guitar amps. What about Peavey? You can usually find something of theirs on the cheap and it normally sounds pretty good. I’m LOVIN the tones I’m getting out of my Musician 400 for my clean. It sounds so goooo…

Yes, but old school style (a la Doug Pinnick); Split signal run through 2 channel graphic EQ to strip lows out of one signal and send to guitar amp (Marshall JCM 800) and reduce highs on second channel and send to bass amp. Tube screamer and chorus on guitar side.

It was awesome! But the guitar rig wasn't mine and I didn't pursue it back then (maybe if I'd had a 12ver I'd have stuck with it, but I didn't and I wasn't as into FX back then as I am now).

I have been doing the 2 rig thing for a little while, and I know I have not used all of the hx routing capabilities and stuff. I already had a gigrig humdinger to split my signal instead of doing things through the HX.

So what I have been doing is having the bass go into the humdinger to isolate 2 paths. It Ys out to amp 1 setup which is a Noble DI-----Phil Jones PB-100 powered speaker. This does not get very loud, but I really don't have loud gigs right now. This is my clean tone. Then the second amp setup is all my pedals and HX into a Darkglass 900 head into an AudioKinesis Hathor 1203 cabinet. This rig has all of that upper mid and high end clarity. Mod, Delays, and Reverb with overdrive sound killer through it!

If I was going to do something different, it would be probably to get a powered speaker slightly more powerful, as i am definitely pushing that 100w powered speaker to just about the max.

I have also tried swapping the rigs so the hx is coming out of the small powered cab. Still trying to figure out what I prefer.

One thing is for sure. Your second amp does not have to be big or expensive to make dual rigs sound amazing. I do notice a huge difference running my 2 rigs wet/dry vs a virtual wet/dry (path A and path B in parallel on the HX) There is just so much depth when you are running your effects through a second amp while have a solid dry amp taking care of all your bottom end. Really sweet stuff!

How do you use the mixer to set the output path to the send? I’m getting confused there...

I just tried it, and it's different than the manual I read (2.5). In HX Edit, grab the mixer (where the merge happens in the flow diagram), and drag it down. THen let go, and it will go all the way across and say "Send 1/2" and your A path will say "Main L/R".

I figured it would have to be done in Edit. I was messing with it yesterday and i seems like you can do, maybe “see” is a better word for it, in Edit. I’ll check it out manana. Thanks buddy.

I should try to run the stereo outs too. See what that’s all about.

Now I’m cookin with gas. That was the key to unlocking my brain to the whole thing man. Thank you! :D

Cool!
Now I have a question - I had figured out how to reverse the on/off of a button led, so the light was off when the button was "on" and vice-versa. But now I can't figure out how I did it... What do I do??? I feel like an idiot sometimes with this thing.
