Line 6 HX Effects

Is it possible to use controller assign out of one of the pedal/ext amp sockets like a Strymon favourite/mini switch to engage a favourite setting on, say, an El Capistan?

I think you'd need some type of midi controller in between to send that message. I could be wrong, I'm very new to midi. But it seems to me that if you want 2 pedals that have midi capabilities and you want to control one of the other with the other, you need something in between to send those messages so they can communicate. I believe that's how it goes.

Does the El Cap use Midi? I thought the Strymon faves/tap switch was just TRS latching switch (almost like an amp channel switch) which recalled a preset in the pedal?

Not sure what you're saying there. I still have a preset switcher for a Mobius I used to have. It isn't midi, just TRS. Maybe that's what you mean?

If that was what you meant, if you want to use the HX for preset switching another pedal, I still think you'll need a midi brain between them as the HX is all digital switching I thought. Could be wrong there. But I know what you mean by saying you can use an analogue TRS switching box to switch presets with the Strymon pedals. But I don't think the HX can be that for the a Mobuis or Timeline without a midi brain between them. But again, could be wrong.

Doesn't the HX have the option to do "analog" switching with some guitar amps? I think what he's suggesting might be possible. Just have to experiment I guess.

Yeah either experiment and try things or study he manual.

I know I ran 2 different rigs out of the loops on the HX. Not sure if that helps at all @Tandark . I ran one amp normal thru the regular in and out but the other amp and cab I ran through one of the effects loops. It actually worked really well. Cause I was able to route some effects to one of the rigs and none to the other. Or just some comp and EQ to one and all the dirt and mod/delay/octave to the other. It was really neat. I would really like to play a show like that one day. It sounded massive.

So I'm not sure if that's what you meant or not. I was thinking you were referring to using the HX as a preset switcher for a Strymon pedal. That's what I've been figuring out lately with the new Source Audio C4 and the Hub and Aftershock. I need the Hub to translate and communicate the midi messages between my C4 and HX. But I can now switch thru presets on the C4 with the HX. I plan to do the same with the Aftershock too once I get a better grasp on all of it. It's a lot to wrap your brain around when you're actually there trying to set it all up.

Same principle, I believe, as this from the manual:

that's why I went the route I knew was safe and would work by running an effects loop from the HX to the front end of my second rigs amp input and I didn't use that EXT AMP in/out.

I'm not positive, but I think you're misunderstanding what the manual is describing... Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding!

The HX can, with certain amps, act as a foot switch to trigger functions on the amp. It's much more common on guitar amps, which frequently have switchable reverb, tremolo, drive channels, etc. It's not to act as a secondary output from the HX.

In other words, it's not carrying an audio signal. It would just be sending a signal to tell the amp to switch something on/off. So I think @Tandark is talking about using that to trigger preset changes on a Strymon pedal. And to be clear, I have no idea if the HX can act that way (at least not without MIDI).

Nailed it. Sorry for any confusion chaps, not the best at describing!
The strymon big boxes would be straight forward using midi. But not sure how the small boxes work with a 'favourite' switch, I guess like you say when I get an El Cap to try it out!
