Line 6 HX Effects

This will be the weirdest question, I have a modded DD3 that has a stereo plug where the exp pedal would plug into. I have my M.O.T.H plugged into and the MOTH only effects the delay signal which makes for a glorious sound at certain settings, can the HX do something similar? meaning can you have a drive/fuzz just effect the delay signal, the manual kinda hints at that. Asking for a friend :D
Yeah should be able to make a separate path with a full wet delay then put whatever effect you want on the delay path.

So, here’s my board guys. I’m planing on removing some stuff to get the HX on this weekend:
View attachment 2926399

What I’m planning on removing is

Afterneath
Tc comp
Tuner (maybe. Not sure yet)
One or both of the boss units. I’m probably just gonna remove both and see how it goes. The DD500 has some features that the HX can’t do. But I don’t think I’ll miss them much. I don’t think.
The ehx muff
Octave
Ring

If I can figure out a good way to route things with loops and all, the DOD fx10 could be in trouble too. Never thought I’d even consider removing that one either. Ever. That’s a serious mojo box for me. And it’s always on.

I’m nit taking the wah or whammy off. Yet. I need a better suited exp for the HX first.

Others im on the fence about

Rat tail
And dare I say the MBD1 (I seriously never thought I’d take this bad boy off my board. But over the last few days messing with the drives in the HX and crossover stuff with them, I’m considering it. Crazy, right?!)

Even hurts a little to say I’ll take the RT off. I love these pedals. Been using them for a while. And I’m a strong supporter of the builders that build them. So for that I feel bad. I feel like I’m cheating haha. But man, I just can’t deny how good I feel the HX performs. However, yet again ;), I need to get it in with the band. That’s where the true test comes in. So this is going to be a process that gonna take a few weeks. But I’ll let you guys know how the revamp goes. I’m excited :D

I would maybe consider keeping the spectra-comp. I've actually been wanting them to add a spectra-comp to the helix, because it would be nice to have a 1 knob multi-band compressor, instead of having to configure each individual parameter on the existing multi-band one. The compressors on the helix are killer, but you might still find a use for the spectra-comp.

Octaver: No classic bass octave down in the standard range but the legacy Bass Octaver is excellent. Doesn't sound anything like an OC-2 but it's fat, sounds great blended with the dry signal, and tracks well with low latency. The simple/dual pitch from the Helix effects offer a decent POG-like effect.

I just can´t stand Line 6's Bass Octaver. It has Oct -1 & Oct -2 Always on and you can't control them individually. It's ridiculous. I use Pitch Glide in -12 to get just Oct -1. The only way to get something similar to the OC2.

You can do it either way. If you engage a wah on it without an exp connected, it’ll just be set where you set it. If you set the out for that block to use exp, you use the exp to control it. But I believe you have to stomp the switch/preset to engage it.
If you assign a Wah from Signal Flow view, it's automatically assigned to EXP 1, including heel bypass. If you assign a Wah from Stomp view, it assumes you want that switch to turn it on/off for a parked wah or whatever.

Easy one knob multi-band compressor, huh? I'm still twitching when I remember how many weeks I had to program the spectracomp to sound right for me. All those bands, all those blends, ratios, tresholds, knees, etc...
I'm inclined to keep my spectracomp just to not feel all that time was wasted. :D

Never had one, didn't realize it was that big of a pain. You might be able to port the controls you came up with on the spectra comp to the helix multiband though.

Yep, it's a pain if the default settings are not to your liking, or you cannot find a stock toneprint to suit your needs. I'm sure something similar can be done with the HX multi-band as well, but I'll have to see it when the HX arrives.

The Legacy Bass Octaver has Oct -1 and Oct -2 always on?

Just sounds like a regular octave down to me! In fact I thought it sounded a lot like my EBS Octabass, only to read later that is what it's modelled on. And the EBS doesn't do 2 octaves down.

Are you sure you didn't have 2 of em in your chain?!

I’ve had the TC comp for about a year now and I was more than happy with the Funk 9901 preset so that’s where it’s the whole time for the most part. Compression is one of the only effects I never really delved into too deep if much at all. I had a DOD Milkbox for a time and liked it a lot but couldn’t get it to play the way I wanted it to with my dirt sounds. Even the TC gets a tad brittle with some things. But overall I’ve liked it well enough to keep using it. I like the HX’s comps quite a bit but I’ll know more about that once I get it in with the band and on my board. So we’ll see. I’m not going to sell off stuff just yet. Want to make sure the HX will get me there. I’m pretty sure right now. But I want to be 100% before stuff starts flying out of my hands. I am about 96.5% of the way there though ;)

Any of you finding your sound for recording or FRFR rigs without using the amp models at all? I'm getting some usable sounds (into headphones at least) using the FX alone.
  • Yamaha BB1025X into Obsidian 7000 (gain at minimum, boosts on, slight bump in 3kHz and treble) into the Low and High Cut (set to a 5.5kHz LPF): Darky BB.mp3

  • Precision with TI flats into Teemah overdrive (with the bass cut dialled off and the gain at 0.5) into a LA2A and Para EQ (for a slight bass and low mid boost): Timmy P.mp3
Didn't spend too long dialling them in but preferring those to what I can get out of the actual bass amp sims!

That Hiwatt guitar amp does sound frigging good though. I reckon I could come up with a crossover patch based around either that or some other guitar amps that would give the Tech21 Geddy / Dug units a run for their money.

The Hiwatt was one of my favorites. It sounds amazingly good.

@bgmww You might want to take another look! The Bass Octaver (legacy) is modeled after the EBS Octabass. It's only got Tone, Dry and -1 Octave controls. And you can definitely control all the levels individually. I specifically programmed my main patch with two Bass Octaver blocks at the front of the chain... One for -1 Oct only and one with Dry and -1. That was mission #1 when I first got my HX.

5sg.

If anyone interested, this works great if you're looking for more clearance on your board and the HX power sticks up too far.

Bonus clip! The Brit Bass preset from Helix Native (which is a HiWatt guitar amp), stock settings except I switched the compressor off as it was overly squishy.

WhoWatt.mp3

You're on the native free trial right? Have you had a chance to try the Aguilar DB751 or Pearce models yet? The DB751 is growing on me for a straight bass tone (no over the top drive), while I've been using both channels of the Pearce on two separate paths (not jumped) for my dirt sound.

The GK model sounds like it would be great for slap, but thats not really my thing.
