Line 6 HX Effects

If the pedal has an on/off switch. Will it turn the effect on/off?
You mean if the expression pedal has a toe switch? No, that's generally a separate output on the wah and HX Effects doesn't have any latching footswitch inputs.

Currently you can bypass a wah by:
  • returning EXP 1 to heel position (the default when adding the wah from the Signal Flow view)
  • assigning it to a switch and pressing the switch (the default when adding the wah from Stomp mode)
  • assigning it to a MIDI CC and sending HX Effects that CC
  • bypassing its block in a particular snapshot and recalling that snapshot

You're on the native free trial right? Have you had a chance to try the Aguilar DB751 or Pearce models yet? The DB751 is growing on me for a straight bass tone (no over the top drive), while I've been using both channels of the Pearce on two separate paths (not jumped) for my dirt sound.

The GK model sounds like it would be great for slap, but thats not really my thing.

Wasn't blown away by any of the bass amp models really, and haven't tried the Pearce in dual channel mode yet (only just figured out how to run split paths!) but I did like the drive sound - instantly reminded me of Billy Sheehan!

I managed to get the firmware updated to v2.50.

I downloaded HX Edit v2.50 and everything just worked. I'm hoping to get a few minutes with it tonight or tomorrow to set up some basic stuff, then its gig time tomorrow. I typically do a trial by fire sort of thing, so that may prove to be a dumb idea with this box and no time on it...but I'll give it a shot.

How is the tuner on it? Does it pick up a low B well?

I'd liken the DB751 model to sounding a bit like the tone hammer pedal. If you have a bunch of preamps already, it might be worth just getting the HX and using your pedals in the loops. But if you have no pedals, it might be more cost effective to get the LT or floor.

Price comparison: if you got the HX and wanted to get an aguilar preamp and a sansamp preamp (all new), it would come out to about $1000. But if you got the LT for the same cost, you could get the aguilar sound from the DB751, sansamp from the SVT or B15 models, plus you then have all of the other extra amp models in the helix as an added bonus. But if you already have something like a bassswitch IQ or a tube preamp you already like, getting the HX makes more sense.

Hey, where did you guys purchase your HX? Just wondering if there are any places that are better to buy from (quick delivery, special deals, discount codes, included stuff). I know it's $599 everywhere, but just wondering.
Both GC and SA recently had coupons that worked for HX. If those are gone, call or email or online chat with Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Musicians Friend, or whoever you prefer. You should be able to get something knocked off the price. MF usually gives 8+% back (in store credit) with their backstage pass program.

Just be prepared for an eternal flood of emails from whoever you choose.

I got mine at Sweetwater. They’re in the next state over from so it only took a couple days. And there was no tax and free shipping so it $599 to my door. Not sure if that’ll work the same for you.

Expression pedal update. The EHX works great. The wah now sweeps like a normal wah, instead of all the effect near the heel and the top half of travel wasted like with the Moog. The pitch whammy works flawlessly. The only con I guess is the travel seems kinda short but after using for a bit I got used to it, even using it for volume. Pretty sure I’m returning my moog to SW and getting a second EHX. Now just need some short TRS patch cables with right angles.

Nice!!! This was my exact experience with the moog as well. I really need a new exp. Thanks for the update!

Here’s a prelim pic! Kinda sucks because I have to drill a big ol hole in a leg to make adjustments for the power all because that silly plug and the way it’s situated. This is my only gripe of the HX so far. But it is what it is. I’ve had to work around power requirements before. I’ll do it again.

Thanks. But, I’m a coupon moron. How do I get/use the SA/GC (or any) coupons?

Some are just listed on their website; not sure if any are going right now. Sign up for their constant barrage of emails. Or talk to an in store salesman. Or call them up. Or click on the "chat now" button on the website. Literally just say, "I'm interested in the Line 6 HX, what deal can you do on that for me?"

MF usually sends a code for a blanket x% off, my Sam Ash rep does the whole purchase right there. It varies from time to time and store to store. It's taken me a bit of getting used to, as it requires human interaction, which I try to avoid. Totally worth it though. It can save a good chunk.

The recent ones were personal / single use, at least at GC, so I don't have any codes to share at the moment.

@bgmww You might want to take another look! The Bass Octaver (legacy) is modeled after the EBS Octabass. It's only got Tone, Dry and -1 Octave controls. And you can definitely control all the levels individually. I specifically programmed my main patch with two Bass Octaver blocks at the front of the chain... One for -1 Oct only and one with Dry and -1. That was mission #1 when I first got my HX.

5sg.

Check it again, bro. It's not -1 Octave. It says just OCTAVE. That knob controls both octaves, -1 & -2. Trust me. Use your ear.. and you'll hear two lower tones. Not just one.

I get GC coupons in my email from the store manager. I got my HX out the door for $556. 15% off but I had tax so zero complaints there.

Don’t know for sure if this is what is in the HX, but;[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Bass Octaver [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] This effect gives you a single clean note one octave down. Bassists love it but guitarists (including Jeff Beck) are known to bust it out, too. Inspired by* the tone of an EBS Bass”

Finally finished. Glad I got this done tonight so I could mess with it all weekend. I started messin with all my dirt in the effects loop. It is going to take me a while to figure out where and what I want. This thing is simply insane. The routing and signal flow and just everything. So much fun!
