Line 6 HX Effects

Hey guys I don’t see that crossover stuff. I go to the split y but it doesn’t give me an option for crossover or anything like that.

I’ve only used the native version and didn’t see a specific crossover either, however you can put a high and low cut EQ in each parallel chain. Only issue is the frequency ranges might not extend to where you might normally want to set them for this application of crossed over bass dirt!

I had a whopping 30 minutes with it. I've got one patch built with my staple FX in it.

I have some EQ, overdrive, and a compressor. I've got the Bass Octaver and my Octabrve Mini in one of the loops so I can compare quick and easy.

I used the tuner a little and found it be quick and accurate at home but I still have the Turbo Tuner just in case it gets funny at the gig.

I'm excited to dig into the drives and the parallel paths next. I likely won't do that tonight though.

@gregmon79 I saw a post on Facebook that the last update had been pulled as some people were having issues applying the patch, so the new update probably just fixes that rather than add anything new.

I’m really liking the OCD model in this too, especially with a bit of lowpassed clean in parallel. The Timmy model is great too. Regarding the Helix replacing the A/O - I think you could get in the ballpark but it would take a complicated patch. Set up path 1 with 2 parallel chains, one more guitar amp like (maybe the HiWatt), call that your Alpha, and something based on a distortion or fuzz for Omega. Blend those then feed the result into path 2 which can host your B7K setup or whatever else you want to play into.

I’ll have to mess around with it. Thanks for the input.

Wish I could figure out what these guys are referring to with this:

Because I can’t find this on my HX...

Found it.
Go to signal flow and select the split.

Menu probably has this option.

Push the big button and you get this.

Can you get two paths in HXFX, each with parallel chains?

Expression pedals. Has anyone tried the dual expression from source audio? I’m currently debating if I want 2 exp pedals or go with 1 and see how the dual inputs work.

The dual expression or mono expression works in the same way in HX. You can assign whatever you want to exp pedal, even more than a parameter

So more messing about today with it on my board.

Snap! I REALLY hope this thing works out in a/my band mix. Because I am really liking it. A lot. I pretty much got rid of everything on my board but my dirt, preamps, wah and whammy. And the tuner. One thing I realized today was that if i keep all my dirt on board, itll make my life easier setting the HX up with my band. It gives me a lot more options and space in patches I build. I found that with all the old stuff off, I was filling patches up fast. So for now, I’ll be using the HX for everything but dirt for the most part. Plus it’ll just be easier to build the HX into my board and setup just using it for delay, modulation, comp and all those odds and end like ring and synth.

It’s going great so far though. I was messing with the routing and signal flow a lot today. Not that good at it yet. But I’m getting there. One thing I kinda wanted to ask @Digital Igloo though. Today, I ran all my dirt boxes in the effects loop on the HX. And I set up the send and return in line and in path B, tried it both ways. But it seemed like I had this sort of digital artifact going while I played. I can’t say it’s something that’s a problem really. It’s hard to describe. And when I was messing with the crossover, my signal sounded off, its like there was a digital coating on my tone. I was thinking that maybe I’m doing it wrong? Haha probably. I’ve never messed with signal routing like this before. Could just be my ears too.

I need to go try and find some good videos on how to adjust and run these flows and loops. It’s a lot to have going on. But I like this. It makes it interesting and in the end I believe it’s going to work out wonderfully.

Oh, and I love the OCD through my board!!! It sounds so damn good! I’ll have more feedback tomorrow I think.

I definitely need to tweak more. Everything was useable for the gig but my EQ's were off from what I normally do.

Overdrive (Obsidian 7000) sounded very much like my B7KU. I'm going to dig into the routing and lpf/hpf options next, and hopefully get the OCD tweaked to my liking.

The tuner was pretty decent. It was very quick and matched the Turbo Tuner fairly well.

Next week we're playing the St. Patrick's Day parade which should be pretty nuts. I'm hoping to get some time each day with it before then..:

The band covers “Pony” by Ginuwine. Is there anything in here that gives that vocal “yeah” kind of sound? I’d like to avoid running a separate pedal for one song.

That was the first song that came on the radio in the car after my gig last night.

So your initial thoughts on it’s sounds are good yeah??

Couple more questions before I buy..
1: In preset mode how does it work having two effects assigned to one footswitch. Like is it literally the footswitch toggles between the two?
2: When inserting an effect in the send/return loop does this count as a block and what else counts as a block other than effects, volume, IR etc?
3: Could I potentially put a volume pedals in the send/return loops to act as a kill switch for path A and B or is there a better way to do this?
The reason for my question is my current bi amp rig setup I use volume pedals as on off for each signal and find this very easy for when I want one or the other or both signals present. Also would like to mention I use an expression pedal in conjunction with an ehx pitchfork set to 5th up blended with octave up from sub n up to quickly add power chords and wondering which would be the best way to achieve this similar to my existing setup. I guess what I'm trying ask is which would be the best way to use the HXFX to quickly kill path A and B when desired and apply power chords quickly when needed. Do I integrate my 2 volume pedals and expression pedal or can it all be done within the HX useing just the integrated footswitches and if doing it this way can the desired effect be done quickly and efficiently without taking up too many blocks. Sorry if I've posted similar questions earlier in the thread but just trying to mentally picture having it setup like my existing setup. Cheers!

Yes sir. I'm hoping to be able to have just the HX and my wireless on my board eventually. I just need to time to be able to tweak all of it.

I started setting up presets for my different basses that I typically use on gigs.

Yep, each FX loop counts as a block.
I believe anything that you assign to a foot switch would count, which is basically everything.

1. Yes. You can actually put a ton of effects on one switch. Well, not a ton. I think the most I’ve put on one was like 5. And you can toggle through them all however if you hit that switch they all engage at once. I haven’t figured a way to engage one or the other yet. I’m not sure there is a way. So it’s either all or nothing if you do it this way. To my knowledge so far anyway.

2. Yes, the send and return take a block each. Anything you put in a patch is a block. IR, anything. This is why I ended up deciding to keep all my dirt on board for now so I didn’t “waste” any blocks in a patch.

3. I’m not sure. I haven’t tried that yet. I think you can though. May need someone else to chime in here.
