Line 6 HX Effects

I got the 3 sigma ones. A few anyway. It looks like each one comes with 20 impulses. So I got the orange, Ampeg and Mesa IR’s from them. 60 spots filled up in my IR’s, 20 each. Idk which one is what but they sound pretty good to me. I would like to get some other ones too. Just to see if I can hear differences from each source.

Do the 3 sigma ones come with the same mic options? Or does each amp model have different mic/mic blends available?

I think. I know each one sounds different in that way cab to cab. So I’d assume it’s mic placement. But idk know for sure.

Do you have to load all 20 for each IR? Or can you load just the one you end up liking best?

You can pick and choose which ones you want. I just loaded them all because I never heard them before so I wanted as many as possible to see what they were about.

Makes sense. I was just curious as I haven't tried any IRs yet, and the Red Wire ones have like 529-607 files per IR. ha ha

I DID mess with the FX loop last night though. And let me tell you guys... The HX Bass Octaver into a Sovtek Bassballs sounded BADA$$.

So I’ve been planning on doing this I just kinda forgot about it. Kind of exciting. I’m gonna run my Roland TB3 with a Keystep midi controller keyboard through my HX in one of the effects loops. It’s perfect for it!! All the options on the HX, line level in the inputs, parallel routing and mixers, EQ, blending....this is so cool! I’m gonna really dig into this this weekend and see how it’s gonna sound more solidly set up!

Hey owners...question...is there a reverse reverb model? Looked in the manual but nothing stood out.

Not to my knowledge, no. However it’s funny you ask that. Because to try and mimic the afterneath, which it didn’t quite get there but it’s in that same realm, I combined a reverb, I think it’s the searchlights one, with a reverse delay and it sounds awesome! It’s sorta like an afterneath with some reverse action happening.

Further HX Bass Octaver / OC2 comparison and My Crazy OC2 theory (aka Another Mid-day Brain Dump)
Okay, so I spent quite a bit more time last night focusing on my patch to make the HX Bass Octaver sound like an OC2. It has five blocks so far and is getting reasonably close (Bass Octaver > Dimension > Minotaur > Parametric EQ > Deluxe Comp). I still want to tweak on the EQ, but I just don't think any more trickery will get the HX to truly sound like an OC2. No real surprise of course, but I've already gotten it closer than I thought I would.

I formulated a theory as I was really getting into the weeds with it last night, which could possibly be of interest to @Digital Igloo if the Line 6 team ever does model the hallowed octaver. *crossing fingers lol

After revisiting the OC2 so much over the last week(ish), I'm now of the opinion that the key to the synthy-ness of the OC2 is that it's not actually an "octaver." *gasp!

My theory is that the OC2 is actually an analog synth module (programmed for one sound only, with a dry blend) in an octaver shell. Much like how a keyboard MIDI controller controls a synth module, I think the Boss takes the dry bass signal as the input, and actually generates the -1/-2 sound from within itself, as opposed to taking the original bass sound and pitch shifting it down. When really dissecting/comparing, it struck me a little after midnight that the OC2's -1 sound compares more to sounds I hear from actual synths. It compares more directly to my Future Impact than my other octavers. (But I haven't had a chance to directly A/B the OC2 and FI side by side yet.)

Maybe others have already figured this out, I was a little late to the OC2 party in my bass playing career. ha ha!

I'm going to keep working on my HX OC2 patch just for kicks, but I don't think any amount of EQing will get me there. The current synths in the HX don't really do what the OC2 does either. So, the best answer for now is to keep an OC2 or my Octabvre in the FX Loop.

On that note: @Chace90 had an interesting suggestion today too... Use just the -1 of the OC2 in the loop, and assign an expression pedal to control the FX Loop mix. Then you can control the mix of the dry vs. sub with your foot! Handy! (disclaimer: neither of us have actually tried this yet. We're just assuming you can do it since you can assign an exp to everything else in the HX... ha ha)

- A sharing site where public access to files is required. Anyone who joins will need to be able to see files that others upload.
- Whoever creates it will need to acknowledge they're happy to be the moderator and handle invite requests etc. (so someone active on here)
- Probably would be nice to be able to verify who has uploaded the files from a security perspective (somehow being tied to TalkBass name, for example). This will likely be handled if it's an invite-only platform as it'll be tied to an email address. Just thinking we don't want anyone to be able to simply gain access and start uploading crap (or worse, viruses).

I can't imagine the patch files will take up much room (kilobytes, most likely?), so size limits on free accounts probably isn't going to be much of an issue.
Sounds a lot like CustomTone. HX Effects isn't currently on CustomTone, but it will be.

Good post.
I couldn´t test the Bass Octaver on my M13 last weekend. Hopefully will do it this sunday.

Regarding the OC2 issue, OCT-1 sound like a square wave on a synth... I got better results using just the Pitch Glide in -12, but i guess i should try to add some Ring Modulator or one of the synths to make it sound more like the original OC2...
