Line 6 HX Effects

I know this is for the HX specifically, but I snagged a Helix LT on eBay on Friday... with the 20% off (up to $100) coupon they had running I was able to get it used for $620 shipped. I started adding up all the pedals on my board and realized that I was fast approaching the cost of one of these, and I still needed to upgrade my chorus pedal and add a flanger (which also meant upgrading the size of my pedalboard as well since I currently only have a Nano). The added bonus with the amp models is I might be able to replace my Ampeg SVP-Pro that I'm currently running into a Quilter BB800.

Has anyone tried the Wahs on bass? If so, how do they work?

Yes, you can def do that. As long as you don’t go over the DSP load or whatever you’d call it. Like Moak said.

Yes, the trems can be choppy like a helicopter. I look for that Juan A type trem in a trem as well. And the trems in the HX can do that and sound beautiful imo.

I dig the ring mod. The HX replaces my moog ring which again, I really liked. It’s got more parameters to tweak too. The HX does I mean.

True. But if you still underpower a pedal like
The HX it could still create noise. A lot of it sometimes. We’ll see what happens. I’m about to try it.

Hate/like to say it, nothing can replicate the MBD1. I mean, you can get close with a couple of the models in the HX. And I’m sure if you added some eq you may be able to get closer with one or two of the dirt models. But the feel and presence of the MBD1 in a mix is unmistakable IME. Even if i decided to remove some dirt in lieu of the HX, the MBD1 will not be going anywhere.

Now that’s not to say that I think the OD’s in the HX aren’t good. I think they’re all pretty awesome. I just happen to think very highly of the MBD1. It was a game changer for me. And still kinda is.
Cool thanks man that's kinda what I figured but wasn't sure and thought I'd ask. If one was to try and get there which dirt models would you suggest to start with. Otoh I've been using the Clawthorn Drv with the Obsidian and oddly enough found running the Clawthorn after the Obsidian seemed to have a better effect as any dirt I used to run with my real B7K was always before and really enhanced any drive feeding it.. Obsidian is running clean and Clawthorn set low to med gain on the overdrive side and low fuzz gain and low fuzz level and getting a really nice grunty grind thing going on but yet very punchy and articulate at the same time. I also have it going into the Cali 400 ch 1/Cali power 6x10 Cab block so I'm sure that's contributing to the over all tone. Just thought I'd share that cause I thought it was odd having Clawthorn after Obsidian but.. it works with my signal chain and me likey haha

I have an LT as well and your gonna really like it. I have only tried 2 of the wahs which was Weeper and Chrome Custom. There is a blend/mix knob on each of them which made it sound way better once you dialed that in and sounded great to my ears.

I wish I would’ve thought to look for deals on the LT before I got the HX. For that price I could’ve moved on it. But I’m still happy nonetheless.

I have not tried the wahs except very briefly with the moog exp. it worked well enough but again, the moog isn’t the exp I’d choose to use with the HX. I may be more inclined to give positive feedback if I was using an exp that mixed better with the HX. But even with the moog, I thought the wahs were nice. Should try it again. But overall, don’t have a lot to offer in this area yet.

Whatever works!! I really like the clawthorn as well as the KMT (is it called?) models. They are really natural sounding to me. So if I were to choose a model ring best represented the MBD1 he would most likely be one of those or maybe the tube drive. This is of course premised with the idea of using EQ blocks to get the rest of the way to get closer to the MBD1. The MBD1 just has a way of mixing with your bass signal in the coolest way. It’s sorta trans yet adds its own juju to your tone. Plus the low end on it is huge. These are the reasons I love it so much.

I was considering selling my Cioks Ciokolate and switching to a Strymon Zuma, but now that I've watched that, I don't know hey...maybe a 1Spot might be a better choice.

I think the Truetone stuff is the best on the market for that price point that I’m aware of. They’ve powered anything and everything that I’ve thrown at it so far from strymon to the boss 500 series units to zoom to now the HX (which I’m still very surprised at. Plesantly surprised. And partially skeptical too. Just feel like one of these days I’m gonna go to stomp something on it and it’ll give out or won’t work. I’ll just be keeping the L6 power plug in my board bag just in case). They make some great PSU’s. Nothing wrong with the other ones at all. It’s just the Truetone stuff seems to offer the most for the price.

Hey everyone, I'm pretty keen on one of these to replace my idea of using two H9s especially since @gregmon79 got rid of a lot because of the HX.

I only have a couple of questions;

Can it run two delays and reverbs in the same patch, I won't use them at the same time but I do want the trails to continue on.
Can the tremolo be super Juan Alderete choppy?
Is the ring mod/bit crusher any good, tbh I've never used them but I've almost finished my synth bass pedal board setup and have those options would be amazing, especially with a blend.
Ohh and how does the routing work, is it just straight or can you do Helix type blending?

Cheers, Sam.

I don't like the Bit Crusher very much...

.....I should say I have been running 2 amps at this point for a Wet/Dry setup and it is amazing!.....

I agree with you. Dry signal into one amp and wet signal into second amp sounded way better than blended dry signal into 2 amps. It seemed to add way more definition and grunt at low to med gain settings on my B7K into 2 Traynor SB115's.

Agree 100%
I have recently gone to a dual amp wet/dry rig and I'm not going back!
I need to refine the rig a bit to make it more versatile (large/small) but dual amps is the way I roll.
I am going to be looking real close at the Helix, my guitarist just got a Floor and I can't wait to get into it.

Nice! You won't be disappointed with the Helix. Just make sure you get the right model (Big Daddy,LT or HX) I originally got an HX and upgraded to the LT as the 9 blocks available on HX was just a little shy for what I needed and I'm very happy with the LT. The routing options are awesome!! I beleieve you can get a used LT for roughly the same price as a new HX.
