Line 6 HX Stomp

More good news on the HX Stomp front with the new 2.9 firmware (to be released "soon"):

Stomp block count will be increased to 8 blocks, and FX routing will no longer require blocks.

:bassist: Yea! :hyper:
Yeah, now I'm hearing the 8 blocks thing is definitely delivered in 2.9; but the non-block FX routing is maybe a 3.0 feature. So, I will cease and desist from any further rumor-mongering.

Line 6 did not allow any streaming of last night's NAMM reveal, probably to control the message. One would have thought that they'd have official talking points ready to go or else inaccurate rumor-mongering would be the obvious result. Sorry.

That’s fantastic news. This should mean the Stomp will be able to use Helix presets that were made with 7 or 8 blocks now.

I thought the reason it didn’t allow 8 blocks was because it didn’t have enough DSP power to go around. I guess this means it always did.

This is what I’ve been seeing

2.9 Model Updates:

-Revv Purple (Ch3)
-1x12 Fullerton and Grammatico Cabs
-Red Llama Drive
-Steve Vai Legendary Drive
-Harmonic Antagonizer Fuzz
-Rochester Comp (Billy Sheehan Compressor)
-Small Stone Phaser
-Split Dynamics (Path A/B Routing)

Feature Updates:

-Output Meters
-Gain Reduction Meters
-Clip Indicators
-IR Attachment by Name
-New Switch/Snap/Looper Layout Options
-New Model Subcategory Shortcuts
-Update from HX Edit
-A/B Compare for HX Native

Available “soon.”

It depends on what kind of blocks you use. You still have to realistically manage what's in your preset. Even with 2 DSP chips, the full Helix has its limits, at which you start seeing greyed-out blocks.

I'm pretty sure if you made every block an amp/cab block, you couldn't get to 6 blocks on the Stomp without running out of DSP. However, other blocks type, like EQ, modulation, and path routing, require much less DSP.

My suggestion has always been to provide enough block counts on all the units to let the unit run out of DSP. At least, then, you know you are able to utilize the unit to its utmost capabilities, versus an artificial threshold.

everything I have heard from people there is saying both of these will be in 3.0 not in 2.9...
Again, this why I think, if Line 6 chose to disallow streaming of the announcement, that they should have published an accurate summary statement to avoid confusion and inaccuracies.

Even if we have to await 3.0, "eventually" is certainly better than "never".

I received my HX Stomp from Prymaxe yesterday. The firmware version was 2.65. I updated to 2.82 but none of the new amps (Cougar 800, SVT 4Pro, Cali 400 ch2, etc.) are showing up on the unit. Anyone have any experience with this?
That doesn't sound right. Have you tired re setting the Stomp, this might load the new effects.

There was an extra step for the new models introduced in 2.80. From the Line 6 Software Download page, try this. Be aware that it will reset all presets to factory and you will lose any presets you might have made, so make sure to back them up BEFORE doing this. (Sounds like it's brand new for you though, so may not be an issue.)

8 blocks is in 3.0, not 2.9. FX Loops will always use blocks; otherwise, how would you bypass, assign, edit, etc. them?

If you're looking for the 2.8X models in HX Edit, you'll need to update that to 2.82 as well.
