Line 6 Relay G10, short review

Slightly disappointed, in under a year the base unit stopped working on it for me.

It is a good product, but that micro USB port is so tenuous and I am sure that is the issue.

No worries. ;-) I was wondering where "4" came from, figured it might have been a typo. Although I heard someone mention 5 once. There is a great comparison chart on our website showing the specs across all the Relay wireless systems. Rock on!

We seldom have FOH support, but this Friday we will have. If the sound man doesn't want to take the signal from my amp (post everything), can he take it off the XLR jack on my G10 Rx and I can still use the 1/4" jack to go to the amp?
 
When the transmitter is docked in the receiver, the G10 will select the best RF channel from 14 possible channels.

Yes, but you gotta be careful:
  1. Connect Tx #1 to Rx #1—which chooses an optimal channel and syncs them—and then plug into guitar #1
  2. Connect Tx #2 to Rx #2—which chooses the second most optimal channel and syncs them—and then plug into guitar #2
If you don't do everything in the right order, there's a chance that the channels will swap—or worse, not work at all! If you're in the heat of a gig and you and another guitarist are swapping Txes in and out of Rxes, yes, there's a chance for bad things to happen. Luckily, the Tx's battery will last longer than the longest gig, so you shouldn't have to dock it until after the last encore.

Keep in mind that G10 was never meant to be a touring solution. It's most comfortable in living rooms, home studios, and practice spaces. The top goals were ease-of-use and sound quality (and affordability!), not multichannel flexibility. G70's considerably more expensive, but it lets you connect up to 16 guitars/Txes to the same Rx and cycle instantly between them with a footswitch (and even route them to specific sets of outputs at specific levels with specific cable tone settings and specific LED colors).
Well - I can tell you the G10 is perfect for what I do - which is small gigs. Any chance to eliminate even 1 cord is fantastic. The other nice unspoken caveat is that the G10 eliminates grounding issues since there is no physical connection to the amp.

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the country on vacation without Internet. How did the gig go? To answer your question: Yes, I suppose he could, but it would be your unprocessed, raw guitar sound. Are you thinking to use the XLR just for some acoustic numbers? One bit of info for this type of setup, the XLR will be about 6dB louder with the ¼" plugged in vs when you are running XLR only.
 
Is it me or does the receiver battery drain if you leave it plugged into the dock while the dock is not plugged into power? I've noticed it dead a couple of times, but haven't done any scientific tests yet.
I'm assuming you mean the transmitter battery, as the receiver does not have a battery. When the transmitter is plugged into something causing the micro switch to be pushed down, it turns on (as expected). However, after 4 minutes of no audio, the transmitter goes to sleep. The transmitter battery lasts up to 200 hours in sleep mode. If you left it longer than that, then you would need to charge it again. It doesn't take long about an hour or two, to fully charge.

Yes, you're correct, I meant the transmitter battery. Odd. It seems like mine has been drained to nothing after leaving it overnight plugged into the base. I need to do some testing though.
