Line 6 Relay G30 vs G50 question

Hey all, I'm interested in buying one of this line 6 wireless systems but I just have a couple of question, Is there really a big advantage between the g50 and g30? I know the g50 has a longer range, and it has metal casing, other than that, does the plastic battery door from the g30 really cheap? Has anybody broken their battery door or transmitter? Is the connection (4 pins inside) of the g50 transmitter can break easy? And one last thing, is there a way to measure the battery life of the g30?Thanks in advance. :hmm:

I have a G30. I have been able to walk far enough from the stage such that the delay from the mains was too much! I've never had a range issue inside of a venue.

The only issue I have is that the wireless unit doesn't fasten very securely to a strap, works better in my back pocket. It does go through a set a batteries in a night.

Otherwise, highly recommended. Tone and response is top-notch. Plays well on the pedalboard.

It's on the base unit. It seems to go from full to empty very quick.

Exactly. I've been embarrassed more than once.

Fresh batteries before every gig, and clip it to my back pocket, no problems.

I bought a G30 during the holiday sales July 4th for $250. It's served me well enough...but had I to do it over again (cheap bastage that I was) - I'd buy the G50. I've not had the problems (so far) that some others have experienced, but perhaps I'm less demanding or take better care of my gear. I like both the more sturdy nature of the G50 and the extended range...though I've never lost signal or had complications with the G30. Changing batteries before a 4 hour gig IS recommended. I may one day pick up a G50 and give the G30 to my guitardist - he should manage to destroy it in no time, and I'll be able to report back on what all one can do to these units to insure their demise :p

yeah that's something I guess that's inherent in the design. My XDS-Plus goes sometimes from 3 hours left on the receiver unit to right on red lol so I usually can make it through. Weird.
I know at least the G30/50 systems have about 2x the battery life though so in the end the investment will probably be worth it. 9V's are just too dang high... :o

G30 works well for me. The battery cover is fine (at least mine is). I get at least 6 hours out of my batteries, but AAs are so cheap that I replace them before every gig so i don't have to worry about it. I popped the clip off and rotated the transmitter 90 degrees so I can clean up the attachment and wiring. I don't trust any of those clips. I was looking for an aftermarket transmitter holder, but no one has the locally in stock, so I just put a black wrist band that one of the beer rep girls gave us at the last show and it holds it on just fine. Since I rotated it, I can look down and see the battery level, and turn it off easier. I'll eventually get the holder. I use a 12" instrument cable with a 90 degree on the guitar end, and a straight into the transmitter.

the G50 rules, except:

that little TA4f connector has an annoying habit of popping out of the transmitter when pulled at all. you can bend its little metal tabs up for better grip, but be sure to situate it so the cable doesn't strain against the beltpack at all.

So you think the g30 would be better. Now you got me thinking? Does the g50 have connection problems?

I have used the G30 for a couple gigs already. I really like it. I have walked all over the bar and outside with no cut out. The range of 100ft was all I needed. The 1/4" output was the real reason I went with the G30. They battery compartment on mine is plenty secure.

Exactly my sentiments. The ability to use any 1/4" cable laying around was the seller for me.

there was no physical room in the higher-end transmitter for the 1/4" jack (which entails a lot of empty internal space).
