1991-92 - Ampeg SVT (80 lb. monster) w/ same cabs
1992-97 - Back to Bassman heads w/ same cabs.
1997-present Peavey T-Max head w/ SWR Goliath III,
just recently added aggie gs 210 and avatar 1x12 and have 3 gigs with the new cabinet combination.
The addition of the 210 and 112 with the peavey head is by far the best sound I have had to date.

Dates are more thought than I care to go through?
Converted Newcomb 50 watt class A into a badly home made 15" Utah cab.
Same Newcomb onto a single Showman 15" (still use that cab)

First amp I gigged with was a 1966 Fender Bassman amp that I bought new in 1966. Also bought a 1965 Fender Jazz Bass in 1966. That Fender worked well in high school, but got totally drowned out but a couple of Vox Super Beatle amps (The originals, not the current ones) that the guitar and Keyboards used when I was playing with a touring night-club group for 3 years.. Finally replaced it while playing at Little Bo's in Lincoln Nebraska in 1971, with a Standell MCIIB/SAM30 that I bought at Hospe Music in Lincoln. Went in looking for a Fender Dual Showman and they were sold out. Tried out everything in the store including a number of full stack bass amps. Then I tried this little thing over in the corner and started to shake the walls of the music store. The Standell was a pre-amp head running a powered cabinet (250 watts rms) that had 2 15" speakers and 4 ports alongside them. A comparatively small set up, it blew the doors off everything. All of a sudden, instead of playing with volume at 7 and listening to the speakers distort as they got drowned out by guitar and keys, I had to play with my volume at 3. When we were outside I was allowed to turn it up to 5 because it didn't have any walls to bounce off of. The ported cabinet really projected the sound - would shake your pants legs from 3 feet away.

Next all my gear was stolen so I didn't have anything. Bought a 1973 maple-necked US made Fender Jazz bass in 1985 and then I borrowed my son's Yamaha B50 115II amp/speaker combo. Then inherited a GK guitar head and 2 cabs with 12" speakers and wide dispersion horns. Gave those to my son when I stopped playing in 1998. Started to play again in 2008, so I ordered a GK Backline 250 with 115 cabinet (Brat Pack). Terrible set-up. Totally roared and not in a good way. Then gigged with that B50 Yamaha and ran a Sunn Beta 202 cabinet (2x12" speakers). Had to crank the treble to cut through. Sounded very clanky upfront but cut through the mix well when guitar players where using VHT with Marshall Half Stack and Peavey 5150 half stack. The GK just gathered dust at this point

Then ran the GK with the 115 cab and the Sunn 212 cab (Beta 202) and that worked better than the Yamaha. Had to run the Sunn in series (has both series and parallel outs) to keep from frying the little GK which can't handle less than 4 ohms. The GK only had 125 watts rms to start and when running in series the ohms load went up to 12. That was safe for the GK, but it dropped the rms watts down into the 80's range. Still, it wasn't half bad.

Then bought an Eden Nemesis RS400 head. Sound cleaned up and cleared up immediately. However, now I had too much power and was worried about the Sunn 212 cab blowing out on me. Tried to buy an Eden 410xlt cab but couldn't come up with the money, so I bought an acoustic 410 and hooked that up in parallel with the GK 115 cab (each at 8 ohms) run by my Nemesis RS400 which puts out 400rms watts at 4 ohms. It's very happy powering those two cabinets, I have to keep the master volume down below 5 to keep the guitar players happy and I have a very well defined sound (great tone) that cuts through the mix just fine. I've got a clear, round sound down low (not muddy at all) and if I want it to growl, I just strike the strings a little differently with my fingers and she growls

I really think I've only had two set-ups that I really liked and have been happy with. The first was that old Standell amp and now the Eden Nemesis with the 410 and 115 cabinets. Still looking to get a David Eden cabinet or two and possibly upgrade the Nemesis to an Eden WT800c if I can ever come up with the money, but right now my set up sounds better than anything I've had before.

GAS is a terrible thing.....

i use an old svt from the 70s most of the time,but lately i use my svt3 pro and i have a carvin dcm2500 power amp,the svt3 pro through a 410 cab for smaller shows and then
an810 with the pro and the carvin power amp.

Hartke 2000 - Paired with a Mesa-Boogie 4x10 Road-Ready Case.(Damn!!I really miss that Hartke. It sounded great!! Great on-board Compressor,too) Long gone.....

Since then, I've added a Carvin BX1200 through and LDS 15/6.5 cab to this list. It gets quite loud.
