Lite, loud and tone

Markbass is hands down my favorite amp company. A bit pricey but you can find some good deals on Ebay.

They have a new modular amp system which essentially allows you to switch up what preamp/eq/master module you want at any time. I recently purchased the TA500. It only weighs about 10 pounds.

I also just recently bought the New York 408 from Markbass. This thing kicks SO HARD. Its an 800 watt cab that is set at 8ohms. I've gotten such amazing tone out of it. I managed to pick this thing up for about 700$ new at Guitar Center.

Best part? It weighs 50ish pounds. and its pretty small. I can fit my entire rig in my small Eclipse.

MarkBass cabs. Just recently broke down and purchased the 2x10 combo and tried it with both a 2x10 (so 4x10's collectively) and now run with (my preference) a 1-15 extension cab. wicked light and AMAZINGLY LARGE sound capable of handling whatever you throw at it stylewise. Im looking to roll with their 4x10 cab with the 15 and get another MarkBass head (probably the Tube 800) for "big" shows and as a backup. Honestly I have been running serious Mesa Boogie gear for ever (Big Block 750 with PowerHouse 1000 cab) and this stuff keeps up. Its pretty transparent tonewise and holds shape true at solid/loud volumes and responds really well for slapping-AND its not breaking my back transporting.. =)
Just saying Im really impressed with this stuff (cabs and head) and am glad I made the "move" to MarkBass!

Hmm, no Avatar or Ampeg.

How small - cabinet size and weight? What speaker size, and number of speakers or does it matter to you? Do you have budget?

SWR Go-Lite is my favorite neo cab in terms of tone (like you, I've found neos lacking in tone somehow). Still a little cube-shaped but great sounding. You might like the Berg HS series too. They are lighter and less deep than most 4x10's and sound awesome.

I'm a fan of the 10's, but I've been using the portabass 2x12 from ampeg as well and it's pretty happening. So yeah, 12 are cool to. 15's tend to be to womphy for me I like a tight bottom end. Any budget, I really just want quality.

I run the 500w Terror Bass /w the Orange 4 10 isobaric. It's a neo loaded cab- looks like a 2-10 - fits in the front seat of my little car, and is rated at 1200w. As a Bassist with Back problems after years and years of haulin 2 Eden 4-10's everywhere and before that Ampeg 8-10's I LOVE THIS LITTLE CAB!!!!!! the Orange 4-10 Isobaric has more bass then you'd believe possible out of a cab that small, when i play a big enough gig I have a Hartke XL 410 i throw on top and they sound amazing, but for most rehearsal/gigs the little orange has been a hit. The great quote from a previous bandmate was " It's not that i hear you better, i FEEL you better" and that was going from 2 4-10 edens to that little orange. Also I've tried the 2-12's and the 2 -10's and they sound good but they don't sound the same/have as much presence as the 4-10.

I guess my concerns with the isobaric cabs from what I read is that it sacrifices volume to give you that tone. Am I wrong is that assumption?

Ha! uh..yes it was. It has no life. I've spent 12 years developing my tone. I use a good amount of lows ranging from 40hz to about 280 hz. The low mid I don't touch, but I cut nothing, plenty of mids, specificaly 1k, very bosted, a little 2k and anything over that is pretty much worthless for bass. Essentially a good cutting tone for heavier stuff. I also use a BBE sonic maximizer to add some subharmonic lows. My bass is a Modulus Q5 with EMG, P and J pickups. Played that set up for a long time, like I said before. Markbass came in the mix and my tone died. In conclusion: Poo.... but that's my humble opinion, if markbass rocks your world, then that's the right rig for you.
