whelp, I'm dumb. Hard not to chew that.
yes they are glorified crawdads. I had some in China that were among the best things I ever ate though. It was 18 years ago and I still remember like it was yesterday.
Sorry to be so long-winded, and for hijacking, but it flowed out of my fingers at light speed.
not to worry, I'm okay with this thread veering into various food discussions.
case in point:
Where's your favorite pizza spot I vote Pizza House on Howard Ave?
And to pull it back on topic where's some good seafood joints?
I will cheat and name 2 - the one I grew up with, a great example of NY style, is Glenville Pizza (which is on Glenville Rd in Glenville.) You can get a slice in either pepperoni or cheese, a Sicilian slice, or a salad pizza, which they claim to have invented, which is basically a dressed lettuce salad on top of a pizza dough and is much better than it sounds. They also do full pies either regular or Sicilian with toppings, Garlic and sausage being one of our favorites. They also make calzones, which have a really thin dough unlike any other I've ever had anywhere. They only take cash, at least as of the last time I was there in 2010.
the other, closer to where i live now, is Camille's Wood Fired Pizza in Tolland. They sell only smaller whole pies, and take a more Italian approach, with a few specialty pies with unusual ingredients like bacon and eggs or red onion, goat cheese, honey and pistachios. It's a funky little dining room with a good beer selection as well.
Those are just my top 2, I've been to dozens of other great spots. Even the bad ones are decent compared to some other pizza deprived regions.
