Maryland crabs are special because of the old bay seasoning while boiling, right? King crab legs never come that way. Eating them is more of a special event that you have to enjoy the process of. I do miss them.

I'm going to have to find some of these soon. They are quite deelish.

Louisiana Hayseeds boil crabs.

We steam them. :)

That's how I feel about crabs. I live in Maryland, where crabs are supposed to be a big deal, but whenever I order them I feel like I burn more calories cracking them open and digging out the tiny bit of meat, than I get from eating them. It's a net loss. I'm hungrier after the meal than before.
My father, when he was still among us, used to say a person could starve to death eating crabs. I'm not a fan of lobster either, while easier to eat than crabs, I've found them to be tough compared to shrimp (prawns) and would rather have the shrimp too.

how long have you been in CT? evidently the hot lobster roll is a CT specialty.

this thread started because we saw a commercial for the McDonald's lobster roll and it got us talking. I'm not sure I would trust it either. They have one at Panera right now too, it was $17.99 for the half sandwich! I've also noticed that the grocery store lobster tank has been all but empty over the last 2 weeks (my kids like to say hi.) It could be a coincidence, but I wonder. We usually only get it at the shore anyway.

Gak!! Lobster from McDonalds? That's travesty!

The seasoning is one of the secrets, the other big secret is DON'T BOIL THEM, steam them. For really good flavor use a few bottles of a nice Pilsner (National Beer) rather than water.

If the seafood is if good quality, I'm a bit of a purist. I like to taste what I am eating, not what I dumped on what I'm eating. Yes, some spices and/or juices can enhance a flavor, but many are misused and end up covering up what you are making. If I am going to eat lobster, I want to taste mainly lobster.

So, for lobster, I like a little sprinkle of black pepper and I have always preferred lime over lemon (for all seafood). The juice from one wedge squirted in a line right down the middle of diced lobster with a little black pepper gets it done. No bread, thank you. Butter all depends. If it is very fresh lobster, it usually is not "fishy" tasting so the butter is not needed.

Probably not a proper lobster roll though..... just how I like it when there is some meat leftover.
