Logic Pro & Microphone input jack

Can I plug my bass directly into the audio input jack and use Pro Tools & Guitar Rig ala' garage band? Trying to keep it simple..or will I need some type of usb device?

I believe it depends which Mac you're talking about.
I have recorded with Logic on an iMac and I used a preamp
with the setup. I think the iMac had a line level input which
was not sensitive enough for a bass or microphone.

If you can afford a Mac and Logic.....
Why is $150 too much to get a simple interface.

It blows my mind that a guitarist or bassist will spend $$$$ to get that great playing instrument and great sounding amp. Pratice, practice, practice to hone technique.........and spend all that time and money to sound good.......then mic their cab with a $19.99 RadioShack mic or try to record with a crappy built in 16 bit sound card.

Just sell everything and order a new Corvette with a dodge Neon Motor.
