Is it the old man flipping us off, the pet pig, or the cannabis hanging to dry in the background? :woot: All I know is it captured a piece of the zeitgeist of my coming of age musically in the 70s and 80s.

When we started putting this together I looked around to see how many other Molly Tribute Bands there might be out there . . . I told the band I thought there were two - A group of guys in South Carolina and . . . Molly Hatchet. Like you I kinda feel they are a tribute band LOL

Yep, I recognized that sticker too because in the 80s I used to use Dean Markley brass medium-light strings on my acoustic guitar and put every sticker on my acoustic guitar case. After a few years my case was covered with that sticker (I went through a lot of strings back then!). When I saw this photo I knew it right away.

In the 80s it was also common to change out the traditional Fender bridge with something more heavy and chunky. Many people thought it would add sustain, myself included. Not sure that was ever the case, though.

Also, stripping the finish and customizing instruments was popular, so I'm not surprised to see the chopped pick guard.

The folks I play with tend to go all in on dress, gear and performance of the originals so I'm trying to up my game a bit.

As a side - I've discovered he was an amazing player with some very cool bass lines. Not sure why he doesn't get the mentions and credit some others do.

I have the guitar version of the large round hole thru saddle in an ESP bridge circa 80-83.

I'm no vintage expert but that small groove version of what fender now offers looks sorta Yamahaish to me. Of the stuff I've seen on eBay and reverb today, I think the current fender is the closest thing in the thread.

But honestly I wouldn't shoot for close. Closer but still wrong isn't better for a tribute band bass. If you can't find an exact match just rock what you got . It could just be a dream you'll never see. (But then again you could beat the odds)

The one toolbox sticker depicts two frogs having intimate relations.

Earlier this year I ordered a bunch of string sets from the good folks at DM. They gave great customer service to me when dealing with an online ordering glitch. I've been using their strings for as long as l can remember- those and Sfarzo's. Your tribute band sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
