Looking for 200 watts (max) alltube amp

I guess bassmec had too much LSD in his younger days... :D

Frying some good old GECs (400 pounds a pair LMAO!!!) in ClassB for nothing but the fun of it? Maybe someone tells him that the DR201s output tranny is the weak link in the chain then, spreading all the watts exclusively lets say obove 120Hz??? :D:D:D

How does he know what technical specs the krauts transformers have??? Maybe they even exceed the legendary partdridges?

Has he ever played a Reeves or Mywatt amp?

As with buying old 30yrs+ amplifiers they can indeed be a bargain - but not if it says HIWATT on them, get sold for over the price of a new Mywatt or Reeves amp and maybe needs a cap-job, new tubes or anything else thats needs to be replaced to make it sound like it did in the 70s.
Publish graphs in awe of the legendarily poor performing Partridge transformer.
Here is the graph for the transformer in the original Hiwatt Dr201:
E3rc24933293-02.gif

Looks like you must have a decimal place wrong, did you mean 12Hz.
I am one of those people who if given the chance of a copy rolex via email I would rather not have a watch at all and preferabley not receive the email.
Did I say the reduction of life span of the GEC tube at higher voltage setting drops below the normal life expectancy of a chinese copy tube at the lower voltage, because it doesn't.
Trying to read into what you are saying I think single ended bass amps have the same future as their past.
I will never consider a tube too good for a push pull bass amp.

So are you advocating a particular tube brand? Are you putting down a brand of transformer? Does any of this have to do with finding the original poster a 200 watt tube amp? Are you even posting in the right thread? It seems like you are arguing about something that no one else is even talking about..

Its somehow funny that youre posting the graph by the "Kraut-Company" Shinrock, manufacturing decent Partridge-Clone Transformers. I can tell you that Weber-Amps indeed uses Shinrock Output-Trannies for his Mywatt 200. Shinrock beeing located in the neighbourhood of Max Weber.

By the Way - YOU must have mixed something up seriously, dont you?
This graph shows the Frequency diagramm at an output level of 3,6 mWatt. :D

Thats a little far away from your claimed 340 Watts RMS clean, dont you think so?

You can tell that this graph will probably look like a mountain, if level comes up to "frying some 800 pounds of ol glass" 300something watts.

For this power seriously displayed down to 40Hz you would either need the DR405´s Partridge or the 1650W by Hammond (used by Mywatt400).

That people even thought Hiwatt 200 Customs where any good at all.
in that case. OK I admit it! we all have got together some time in the seventies to create a complete myth which surprisingly has lasted right up until today.
So as you have blown the gaff now HOSS. The cats out of the bag! I feel in some way slightly responsible, so to offset any negative karma, I am now prepared to take all these crap old amps off any bodies hands for a very generous £150.00 each, assuming good cosmetics and functionality.
All real Hiwatt owners can PM me to arrange the pickup.
:bassist:
PS No no no don't thank me, its the least I can do under the circumstances.

My output transformer here has a 65mm width of very fine laminations
the output trans in that looks about 55mm wide
In fact his Power transformer is about the same size as my output
and my Power trans is 75mm thick also very fine laminations.
They look like the transformers for the six EL 34 head.
:eyebrow:

Sorry Bassmec,

I, the original poster, do not understand all your rambling......:confused::confused:

Sorry I was responding to HOSS about Hiwatt transformers.
He was saying they where useless and we should all buy german transformers and amps instead.
Sorry! I was attempting using the old secret weapon all us Brits are equipped with. A sense of Humor?.

Humor, yes!!! I love british humor! I absolutely love the "Flying Circus".
But amp related tech-talk is not my forte.

Thats cool! I have done quite a lot of work for two of the python team
in the old band they came from, "Bonzo Dog"
I think that the Webber Mywatt amp looks very good for the money.
The transformers in it are by one of the better manufacturers its very important to have great transformers in a tube amp.
Apart from the quality of the capacitors its the most important factor.
And to be honest the Krauts make bloody good capacitors. I swear by those Mundorf dual 100uf lytics. Not cheap but Pukka! gear.
Don't buy an old Valve amp unless you know its been recapped and re valved/biased, unless you want to get into amp refurbishment as all these old amps need rebuilding and setting up before you can truly rely on them.

Now were talking. :)

Too bad the English football team cant come to the beautiful city I live in. So much about black british humor. Are you laughing? :D

..

I used to use Sunn Model T heads back in the 70's and they broke up early
enough with the 150 watts they produced. I went for clean headroom with warmth
in the 80's, but the original Model T heads could be pushed into all sorts of warm
fuzzy fun if that happens to be what your'e looking for.

And he just got sectioned under the mental heath act. We have a premier league but I don't think there are any English people in it, are there?.
Last I heard not even the English manager is English.

I own one of the rare SVT-100 all tube heads; I love it! Got it for $500 used; puts out 100, but is more than loud enough for a 5 piece band (uses 4 6550, so may actually put out more than 100 watts, though that's really limitted by the transformer...). Blew my Traynor YBA-200-2 out of the water! Heavy, though...
