Looking for 200 watts (max) alltube amp

I've got a Weber Mywatt 200, really good amp. I love it. I paid EUR 885 from Ebay, but it was brand new, auctioned by Max Weber himself. Normally they're EUR 1100 new. It's a very clean tone though, it won't really distort like an Ampeg or anything like that. A fantastic amp though, world class for less than half the price.

Sure it would distort! :p
But compared to an SVT the Mywatts power stage distortion sounds a bit more aggressive. Check out old "The Who" recordings.

In general the Mywatts are very clear and present sounding amps with a good amount of tight lowend. The Mids sit in a different position compared to an Ampeg. The Mywatts Mids are a little higher and therefore come out much clearer but also dont sound as dark and "evil" as the Ampegs Midrange.

If you love the typical forward dark vintage SVT mids then maybe you gonna miss that with a mywatt.

The Mywatts Highs are sweet tubeish ringing where with an SVTs Ultra-High engaged it tends to sound harsh somehow.

The lowend of an SVT comes out looser and therefore feels a little bigger. The Mywatt stays tight and almost technical in there. Skilled Bass Players with dynamic playing will cherish that a lot. I would even say that some SS lovers would like the "speed" of the Mywatt and be floored by its musical warm tube-sound (which is missing in their SS rigs, but they just dont know yet... :D)

My experience is, that there is the tendency that in a Mix the Mywatt can be heard much better than the SVT - but thats also a matter of knobtweaking.

As with overdrive - I use the Mywatts Preamp-Stage overdriven and am very happy with that. Good vintage growl. :p

Max Weber sells the new Mywatt200 for 1200 EUR but its a matter of negotiating if shipping is included in that price. The new Mywatt is 100 EUR more because it has a transformer-balanced fully adjustable XLR DI-out, which I can strongly recommend as its one of the best DI sounds I have ever heard.

Keep in mind that you can send back the Mywatt if you dont like its sound. Max Weber offers a Money-Back if you are not satisfied.

Hope that helps...

That amps seems perfect for me :) Now, who's gonna pay for it?

Simms Watts AP 200 Super, Roost SR 150 well if the six EL34 Hiwatt DR 201 was 200 Watts then the Roost was too, Carlesbro TC 200,
Selmer Chieftain 200.
All these amps can become Hiwatt DR 201 clones with the flash of a soldering iron the Simms Watts and the Roost even have the right bloody Partridge transformers.
Lets face it Harry Joyce new how to build an amp and Dave Reve new how to design one. When they got together something very special happened the original Dr 201 with four GEC KT 88, you chaps from the colonies know them as Genalex or Golden Lion tubes.
I think this is the ideal head for bass as its dead reliable has a fantastic rich tone and a bright sparkle. Only weighs 38KG, if it isn't loud enough, simple get another one as well. Or clone one, the Kraut
clone has the wrong transformers and is therefore no good as a start point. But this most certainly is.

Its the amp that introduced us to a whole new material Plexi
Marshalls are hardly plexi in comparison

The mighty Roosts
Didn't even need more than a badge change if cosmetics are important.
It was made in Southend on sea, Essex as well, It used all the same parts and was built at the same time as Hiwatt. In batches of ten by a labour force of a maximum of eight including the van driver.

When that amp was made I was.

You might note that at that time in British Amp history the two amps sporting 6 X EL34 power stages were rated at 150 watts see Roost, Sound City, In common with the silly idea 100 watts was four EL 34, 6 was 2 more than that, therefore output = 150 watts, believable?
The more economized Later 6 EL34 valve Hiwatt still named and claimed DR 201 and 200 Watts.
I think Sound City and Roost Understated. They used exactly the same transformers as that Hiwatt. Even with everything we can do in the way of auto grid bias etc with todays oem valves 225 watts rms is on the 6 best EL 34 valves Peavey ever had. Unless they tweaked the variac on the bench voltage a smidge when no one was looking. I notice its a nice round figure with no messy decimal places.
Real KT 88's AMP's sound and perform different. I love that difference.

Is that even relevant to the original poster's question/inquiry?

I guess bassmec had too much LSD in his younger days... :D

Frying some good old GECs (400 pounds a pair LMAO!!!) in ClassB for nothing but the fun of it? Maybe someone tells him that the DR201s output tranny is the weak link in the chain then, spreading all the watts exclusively lets say obove 120Hz??? :D:D:D

How does he know what technical specs the krauts transformers have??? Maybe they even exceed the legendary partdridges?

Has he ever played a Reeves or Mywatt amp?

As with buying old 30yrs+ amplifiers they can indeed be a bargain - but not if it says HIWATT on them, get sold for over the price of a new Mywatt or Reeves amp and maybe needs a cap-job, new tubes or anything else thats needs to be replaced to make it sound like it did in the 70s.

Ampeg V4B without a doubt. I got one on ebay in mint condition for about $650. I rarely get to crank it all the way thru 8x10's.

The mywatt100 sounds very interesting...I would love to demo one.

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize you are all in Europe. As for Hiwatt, Mywatt, and other European tube amps, I don't know anything about them.

I have owned and gigged with two V4Bs, a V4BH, a vintage SVT, and now my Peavey. The Peavey wins head and shoulders above the rest of them in regards to tone, volume, flexibility and WEIGHT! And it's under warranty!

Yeah, given the currency situation these days, the European heads would have been much better buys for US players a couple years ago.
