Sarge, I have to chime in here. I picked up one of Pete Skjold's fivers with the new electronics last weekend at the Dallas Guitar Show and am really loving it. I'm not a touring pro/bass god by any stretch, just an average player who plays most often at my church, going through the PA in an auditorium that seats around 1000. Sound dude (who is an ex-pro) LOVED the tone of this bass Sunday, and he's not easy to please.

For reference, I also own Sadowskys, an MTD, an F-bass, and a Roscoe sixer. These are all excellent basses in their own right and please don't hear me saying I like any of them any less than the Skjold - they all have strong points and are great basses.

That said, Pete's bass easily holds its own in this group tonewise, IMO. It is light, plays easily, well-constructed, and the preamp is so flexible that I can dial in just about any variety of tone I want, which is important to me since our church does a variety of music styles.

Bottom line, I'm very pleased with my Skjold. Don't decide against it until you've played one, if possible.

Well, a month later- I ended up with the skjold and this sums up my experience with it perfectly! It has the old electronics, so barts and a bart preamp. It has incredable tone, and plays effortlessly.

I like the 35" B string on it so much that I actually changed the scale lenghth on my fretless to match.

Sadowsky 24 fret Metro or NYC. Its loaded with 2 custom soapbars through the world famous Sadowsky preamp.Its only a 34 scale but thats all you need!, Sadowsky has masterd how to make a great tight and higly deffined low B on a 5 string with a 34 inc scale. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

HA! The Modulus Flea is the creepy cousin they should have never let out of the closet. DO NOT write off Modulus until you try the models that put them on the map. Yes, 35" scale on the 5 and maybe 4 strings, too, but the necks play sweet and will not move on you.

Modulus might be the trick for you. If I was playing a lot of outdoor gigs, playing different times of the day and night and all the different humidities out there graphite has a memory. Q5 try that out.
