Sorry if this is not the proper forum.
I have no bass building skills. Not interested in learning. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you guys, but the fact is, I am a player, and that's all I'm interested in doing.
Having said that, I'd like to install an active pre in my usa p. This will require some Battery routing and preamp installation. The local guy here is a hack (never ment a neck he didn't "strongly suggest" needs a refret). If anyone is interested, get back to me. I'm in Northen Maryland/Delaware, so if your not local, we'd have to use shipping
Thank you in advance.

a P-bass lends itself for being activated with an 18v Aguilar OBP-1 rather easily

when I had my shop open I did a couple of these with a Volume/PassiveTone + Bass/Treble + bypass switch configuration. from about 30 feet away nobody would ever visually guess that the bass had been modified ;)

I have also installed (and not too long after removed) a Raven Labs PBR1 pre-amp system into a Fender P. while it was interesting to hear what it could do, it

* didn't have a bypass to play in passive mode
* added bass when cutting highs
* added highs and bass simultaneously
* never sounded like a stock P with everything set flat

all of these shortcomings are easily remedied in the OBP-1 upgrade. the only real advantage I could see with the Raven Labs unit was that it was pretty much a drop-in sans routing modification type of job - something that can't be said for the OBP-1 upgrade

all the best,

R

You need to contact Nick Bucci, if you want it done right. He is North Wilminton, and worth the wait.

I've had the Raven Labs in my P for many years. Everything you say about it holds true with mine except when it's flat. It sounds just like my P bass but better. More even response I think. The little watch batteries seem to last forever.

If the OBP-1 will do that and address the shortcomings it must be very good.

I really think that the OBP-1 is my favorite bass preamp, so far (haven't had a chance to play with the Audere stuff yet). I can't think of a reason I'd want to *cut* the bass frequencies on a bass instrument, so the boost only feature is perfect for my taste.

What I'm doing on an instrument I'm making right now is, stacked volume/tone, pickup blend, and stacked bass/treble boost (the OBP-1).
