Just as the thread says...

Looking for a Lightweight cab review... from BP mag/similar or article or something similar. Don't really want a LONG thread with a hundred different opinions, (unless you think I'll benefit from it.)

I have a great amp, but am killing myself with the 94lb cabs. I use a 210 and a 410 and sometimes a 115.

500 to 700 watts combos are VERY cool also

Ahh. Thank you. I've been on the hunt for a 410 Epifani and found on here on a TB thread.

Someone also told me THIS...

"The Epifani is all about lows. Very wide, deep bass, lots of low mids, maybe a very little scooped in the high mids and bright highs.

The Bergantino has very tight lows and subdued low mids, pronounced high mids and sweeter highs.

I could gig with either cab easily but the Berg is more of the sound that I hear; very tight with pronounced upper mids. OTOH, if you like lots of lows, it'd be the Epifani."

I'm concerned that this information may be subjective to the user or have you found the same result?

Seems to me Ken, Chef and Vic might have made similar comments; I find their opinions very much in line with mine; hopefully they could contrast and compare these 2 again

I have a newer UL410 and it is not as low predominant as the earlier series 1 and ll, and I find plenty of upper mids and a very sweet tweeter.
My Bergs are older HT series and have the PA style horn. Very crisp, clear and punchy.
I am in love with both, but weight wins with the Epifani.

Maybe do a scroll through Tom Bowlus' (of Bass Gear Mag fame) postings here on TB. I think he has at least one of every lightweight cabinet ever made.

KJung also has a large number of posts here, and a very useful YouTube channel on which he plays various combinations of bass, head and cabinet. He pretty much sold me my last purchase (TCE RH450 head).

Check out the SWR Golight 4x10 or the SWR Marcus Milller Cab, < this one is a sealed design the other is front ported.

Your previous feedback regarding the Epifani UL series and the Bergantino AE series (well, at least the EA410) seem fairly on point. As others have mentioned, you definitely want to also check out the GK Neo line. I'm most impressed with the Neo112-II and Neo212-II. They have tone to rival the best in the business - IME/IMHO, of course - but they are priced well below the other top contenders.

Mesa/Boogie also uses neodymium-based 12" drivers, so their PH112, PH212, and PH412 are reasonably light (though they still build the cabs very sturdy). The Genz-Benz Uber series and NeoX series are also great performers and lightweight. EBS Neo cabs are also quite good.

If you or a friend have any wood-working skills, you can build some of the best-performing, lightest cabs in the business following greenboy's fEarful designs.

Ive been using Genz benz neo's have 2 2 12's and a 1 12" , i love em ,i bought the 1 12" first because i like a single 12 for small gigs , the cab is remeniscent of a bag end 12 except that it can handle a low b which the bag end never seemed to be able to do with any volume great bang for the buck too

The mini 12 and 15 are crazy light yet very loud and punchy. They were the first cabs I've had that made me realize I really don't need to haul a tweeter or horn around for most of the stuff I do.

Not suited for all types of music IMO (read around on this topic), but very convenient to haul around and sound great. They definitely have their own sound/color though.

Forgot that I played through a guys Schroeder 1212 (which is a 2x12 for those of us don't know code). I didn't carry it but it was very small, sounded good, and was loud enough with a WA. It was so short that angling up is a must IMO

I love the sound of Mesa Boogie cabs. But I'm not sure that these would be much improvement for xhawk5's back!


If mid-forward is of interest, Schroeder's newer line of BMF cabs might be worth checking out. They're still voiced the opposite of, for instance, Epifani deep voicing, but I believe they're less extreme and smoother in the mids than the older tilt-driver models.
They're awful light for the volume they put out -- the 410 is 51 lbs!

thank you. I have plenty of 210 and 410 cabs to fill a small room. I can use some or all of the equipment from those, possibly, and build the cabs. I'll check out his designs.

I'm trying to save some dough at this point, just went through alot of it to get my top 3 basses. But if time is of essence, that means I'll be having a good season, so I can buy the ones I prefer.

I really dig my Peavey BAM amp. I'll probably put the amp in a case and get lightweight cabs...
Leaning towards the Epifani UL410 S1 or Genz NeoX 2x12,
There was also a very nice Genz Benz Rig with a Shuttle 6.0 head in a GB gig bag. The Cabinets were a GB 210XB and a GB 115B. looks like the thread closed. That was a deal at $700.
