Ah I really want a 550 in blue to go with my Red 500, So much better a bass than the looks would make you think.

Yeah I don't know what they did when they designed them, maybe not going after a "vintage" style without going for super modern either was the key.

I was scheming... but this is only if you want a decent bass that look like ass.

Technically more around very late 80's or early 90'ish and you want a project or know a tech and are willing to piss away money for a giggle about the behemoth you have.

Have it routed to add a Jazz PU, spec out a Warmoth neck, maybe a Fender Yosemite PJ set of pickups.
eBay all the other hardware.

Squier Katana routed for a neck J?

Man, that’s a great idea—really any P-configured bass routed for an additional neck J would totally nail the offensive PJ premise, just as eye-jangling as those reverse-bodied Flying V guitars.

And if you did it to an existing PJ bass, it would become a JPJ, good for some Led Zep points.

And if you flanked a single Music Man humbucker with J single coils on either side, that would become a JMJ, which Unfortunately would fall outside the scope of this thread.

how is the neck profile on that? Is it super thin? I prefer a neck with at least some meat to it.

It is quite slim, I wouldn’t say quite to the level it is quite slim, I wouldn’t say quite to the level of an Ibanez neck, but slim for sure. But the nit width is sinilar to a Fender so it bridges the gap nicely

So many Ibanezeseses don’t have skinny necks. It would be about as accurate to go on about “those skinny Fender necks” because many jazz basses have them.

Indeed. The neck on the RS800 I have isn't as skinny as the RB neck on a GSR body I also have.
