Looking for a practice amp...

There's a ton of lightweight practice/small venue amps on the market. I too decided to liberate myself from that 80 lb. back-breaker for a more reasonable 20-30 lb. unit. After looking into them it was a toss up between a Rumble, Peavey and Acoustic, I went with the Acoustic B50C. I chose this one not because it any better than the others but I liked the tilt back cabinet feature. The pricing was about the same (around $200) and if you wanted a little more juice, a 100 watt combo with 12" speaker was available for a few more dollars. Good luck on your search!!

I always liked those mini Ampeg SVT 210 cabs. They look so cool. Add a TC BAM 200 head, and you have a pretty cool little home jam setup that can get gig loud, but not overwhelm the room.

You can also use the cab for smaller gigs, and the head for backup.

I've thrown this suggestion before, but I wanted to offer up my solution... I picked up a powered 12" monitor from MusiciansFriend's Stupid Deal of the Day for $99. I run either my gig board which ends in an Aguilar ToneHammer (below) or my Zoom B3n and am happy as can be. I like this solution enough that I'm really debating getting rid of my other amps (I've got a few solutions) and picking up a couple more monitors (when more power's needed). I play a 5 string and this setup handles a low B like a champ and it keeps up with a reasonable drummer and guitar player quite fine. This monitor is fairly light too, so it's a win all around.

I tried this idea in a former band but the low end from my monitor (Alto TS312) was weak. But, for practice, it was quick setup...just hook up the pedalboard to the monitor then connect power to both of them then I was ready in 10 minutes.
