Looking for subtle mow mowwww Envelope/Autowah type effect.

I'm needing a subtle Autowah or Envelope effect that isn't bright or cutting. I've tried Digitech BSW and Ibanez SB7 and both of them ended up being either to cutting or to sub dubby depending on how they were adjusted. Both seemed to greatly change my core tone rather then add a subtle effect 'to' my core tone.

Just looking for a subtle mow mowwwwww type sound added to my existing tone without it getting pow powwww or pyow pyow or byaw byaw or byow byow... fresh out of simulated typings of sounds I don't want.




Ideas?

I thinking something likely with a Blend on it... something versatile isn't bad either.

I'm all about tone choices and subtle use of effects. No real need for over the top noisemakers.

Check out the Emma Discombobulator.

It's considered one of the more subtle filters out there, and my thought while trying it out was how much it maintained the clarity of my tone.

Don't remember which way it Mwow'd v. Bwow'd but it had both an up and down filter so you should be able to get some diversity.

My call for the effecxt I think you're describing would be an EBS Wahone. You'd have to sweep with your foot, but the lowpass sounds SMOOTH.

Yeah, the Qtron is pretty bright and squelchy.

From what I have heard the Boomstick, it may be what your looking for. Or an mxr auto wah.

+1, MXR Bass Auto Q , which also has a modulating "shimmer" effect that can be dialed out.

One vote for the EBS BassIQ. It's very versatile, subtle to all-out wackiness, providing your playing is consistent. I find it forces me to play consistently to keep the effect subtle, so it's kinda like a training tool.

Three things come to mind:

1) turn down the sensetivity & peak controls on whatever envelope-controlled filter you use

2) split your signal chain into a parallel system; blend dry unprocessed bass with envelope-filtered signal

3) consider an envelope-controlled flanger rather than an envelope-controlled filter

This is a killer box. It's one of the most flexible envelope filters I've tried (others being EH Bass Balls- not flexible at all and Q-Tron). With the Emma, you can get soft, shallow, subtle tones to over the top bitey funk tones and don't lose any bottom end.

They also seem to be made really well, too. I've got one of these and Emma's Transmorgrifier compressor pedal and have had zero issues with either, even after almost 4 years of really heavy use.

The only potential downside is the pricetag, but if it's something you're going to use a lot, it's worth it.

Definitely the Boomstick or the Disco Bob. The older (but identical) brethren to the Boomstick Bottom Feeder is the Tone Factor 442 Red (not green which is for guitar) so look out for those too.

BYOC do a DIY kit of the same pedal too and supply the caps necessary to do the bass mod.

Also, I don't know if you've considered a wah. I had a 105Q and it has an adjustable Q control, which when turned down gets very subtle indeed.

the moog lpf can do subtle tones, it has a mix control and control over the envelope sensitivity (2 settings) and amount.

I haven´t tried the others mentioned, so try them all out for yourself!

I can actually get fairly smooth tones on my Q-tron. Just keep the gain and peak down a bit, and don't hammer the strings, and it gets really watery sound.

I'd have to +1 the bottom feeder, as well as a +1 to splitting your signal. I have my Bottom Feeder and a BassIq in a blend loop. 50/50 wet/dry = subtle.

seconding the MXR bass auto-Q, it does subtle and doesn't kill lows

I had a Bass Auto Q until a couple of months ago and can't actually remember anything about it. So it's either subtle or just plain forgettable.

Bear in mind if you want a subtle filter effect you have to play the part yourself and give it the right envelope to work with. Maybe a clean blend would help. FWIW I can get this out of my Meatwad, and it also has a clean blend on-board, and it does lots of other stuff very well too.

If it gets too subby, turn the resonance down.
