No. It used to be you could click on somebody's name and have options of "find all posts by", and, "find all threads started by".
It wasn't until just the last couple/few months that the "find all threads started by" option went away....likely about the same time they started messing with all this new stuff.
I'm not sure that is correct, but even if we assume for the sake of discussion that it is, the new way is at most one additional click if you are already looking at a post from the person whose threads you want to search. If you are not already looking at a post from that person, the new way is fewer clicks.
I've found a number of things over the course of the day today that are much less of a PITA under this system than under the old. For example, the new message editor recognizes keyboard shortcuts like control-B, control-i, and control-u. Under the old system, you had to either manually type the formatting tags, or type the word you wanted to format, highlight it with the mouse, and then hit the appropriate formatting button. The message editor also saves drafts, which is definitely an improvement. If I wanted to, I could leave this message, go type a response to a message in another thread, and then come back and pick up where I left off with this one. On a related note, quoting is improved, because it is now easy to insert a quote into a post even after you've typed a partial reply. I happen to like the notification features and the ability to follow particular posters. I'm sure that there are other improvements that I haven't yet figured out.
The old emoticons actually conveyed to the reader whether you were making a joke, being smartass, or genuinely didn't like something. The new ones, except for a very damn few, all look like a bunch of arrested development cartoon characters, like you've got a bunch of grownups wearing superman pajama's.....which would be OK except for everyone knows Superman wears JimmyM pajamas.---stupid cartoon smiley here--->![]()

I think that the new emoticons convey emotions just fine.
Seriously, is this really an issue? It looks like many of the old emoticons are still available (

) along with a number of new ones.
