Looking good TB.

No. It used to be you could click on somebody's name and have options of "find all posts by", and, "find all threads started by".

It wasn't until just the last couple/few months that the "find all threads started by" option went away....likely about the same time they started messing with all this new stuff.

I'm not sure that is correct, but even if we assume for the sake of discussion that it is, the new way is at most one additional click if you are already looking at a post from the person whose threads you want to search. If you are not already looking at a post from that person, the new way is fewer clicks.

I've found a number of things over the course of the day today that are much less of a PITA under this system than under the old. For example, the new message editor recognizes keyboard shortcuts like control-B, control-i, and control-u. Under the old system, you had to either manually type the formatting tags, or type the word you wanted to format, highlight it with the mouse, and then hit the appropriate formatting button. The message editor also saves drafts, which is definitely an improvement. If I wanted to, I could leave this message, go type a response to a message in another thread, and then come back and pick up where I left off with this one. On a related note, quoting is improved, because it is now easy to insert a quote into a post even after you've typed a partial reply. I happen to like the notification features and the ability to follow particular posters. I'm sure that there are other improvements that I haven't yet figured out.

The old emoticons actually conveyed to the reader whether you were making a joke, being smartass, or genuinely didn't like something. The new ones, except for a very damn few, all look like a bunch of arrested development cartoon characters, like you've got a bunch of grownups wearing superman pajama's.....which would be OK except for everyone knows Superman wears JimmyM pajamas.---stupid cartoon smiley here---> :)

 :rollno:

I think that the new emoticons convey emotions just fine.

:p
Seriously, is this really an issue? It looks like many of the old emoticons are still available ( :bassist::hyper::rollno::spit::eyebrow:) along with a number of new ones.

Can we bring the blue skin back? Looking at everything in white gives me a headache.

Also, is there still the 40 post per page option? Current default is 20 per page.

Bottom left corner.. "Style Chooser" it will either say TalkBass Retro or TalkBass 2014.... You can pick between TB 2014.. which is the new format.. and TB Retro which is not the old retro style,, but it is blue and a heck of a lot easier on the eyes than the white.. Makes the whole experience much much easier to adapt to..

Okay, so far I'm not a fan. Granted, I'm a dinosaur, but these are some major changes. Two questions:

1. Does the "Like" button mean you like that particular post, or does it mean you like the poster in general. If it's the former, that's fine; but there aren't a whole lot of you clowns that I'd be willing to say, "I LIKE you!!!" It might be misconstrued! ;) (By the way, that's the sorriest, most cockeyed wink icon I've ever seen!)

2. If you want to quote a post, do you use the "+ Quote" button, or the "Reply" button. Several folks have mentioned that you use the "Reply" button, but I'm not sure. I still think of "Reply" as a response that goes at the end of the thread. And if you DO use the "Reply" button to quote a post, then what is the "+ Quote" button for? (I'm so confused...) :help:

1. Liking is the former of what you thought. You can like individual posts. There are other features if you want to "follow" someone, which seems like the equivalent of what was the buddy list on the old system.

2. Reply will directly reply to that post you clicked on and put it into the quick reply field immediately. However, +Quote is used for the multi-quote system now, so if you want to reply to multiple quotes, you click +Quote for each post. Then, scroll down to the quick reply box and click "Insert Quotes" below it. This then allows you to re-arrange the quotes in the order you desire, and add them in to then post as normal.

Hope this helps.

Mouseover those buttons and you'll get some additional descriptions. The "reply" button is actually "reply, with quote." The "+Quote" button is "Toggle multiquote." You can use it to select multiple posts to quote in a single reply.

Very much, thanks! You too, Febs. Much appreciated...

Meh. All and all, not too bad, since I switched to the retro skin.
Suggestions:
  1. Get rid of the new skin. As many have already reported, it has way too much white. Otherwise, it just looks unprofessional
  2. Change the caption of the "Like" button to "Agree"
  3. Add "Disagree" button.
  4. Dump the "Trophy". What's that all about, anyway?
  5. Block all posts that only say, "+1.
Other than these few changes, everything else works OK for me, or, at least, I'll grow accustomed to the changes sooner or later.

OK , I've visited the site about 10 times over the time since it changed on both PC and my phone -I can say I now know where all the stuff I used to use is, I can find everything I want to and I know where to go to get to the places I want to visit.
For me, no downsides in the change, just takes a bit of looking around, seeing where things are and getting used to it - haven't explored all the new bits yet, don't know if I will until I see or am told about a need/benefit in doing it but, as one of the over 55 brigade on here, its absolutely fine by me for my personal use of the site.
YMM of course V.

Well, the outline around avatars ruins the cool floating effect I created for my avatar. And I worked hard on that. :sorry:

The mobile site is pretty nice though. Never was a huge fan of the TB app- while it was better than looking at microscopic text on Chrome for Android, it lacked. But it was nice to have an actual app that I could launch from my home screen, instead of viewing in chrome... especially nice feature of the TB app was getting notifications of PMs, great for buying/selling.

Anyone know of anything for Safari/Apple that can approximate this??
Have you tried TalkBass Retro?

Edit: Either the Retro skin has been tweaked to get rid of the white, or my eyes have become accustomed to it. I actually think I like the Retro better than the original version and much better than the new "improved" 2014 skin.

Honestly, I prefer the TB2014 layout to the Retro, and the vBulletin style. I just don't want such a bright white background. Plus, when it gets upgraded again in the distant future, I'll have that less of a jump to make than if i was using retro mode :p
