Lord Help Me!

Thanks for all the kind words again, everyone. Today's my first full day without smoking. The first one of the day was the hardest to resist, but I'm doing better now. Right now I'm jittery and can't really focus on anything...feels wierd. I'm doing my best to keep a smile on my face. I don't want people around me to suffer too much.

Had dreams about smoking a cigarette ALL thru the night last night - is this normal? They weren't crazy dreams, they were just like me sitting on my front porch smoking. Odd.

Enjoy the fuzzy brain. Don't worry, the dreams slow way down in few years. ;)

Five months now for both me and my wife, that's after over 35 years of smoking! You can definitely do it :bassist:

We decided, on the first day, to put the money we used to spend on smokes in a jar. Now, 5 months later, that "butt" money has put another GT-7 in my hands (it's in transit right now  ) and my wife just ordered a new, very customized, sewing machine for her doll business (and we thought custom basses were a lot of money  ). It's amazing what a combined 2-3 pack a day habit cost us ........

Stay off the butts and buy a new bass, that's some cool motivation (not to mention your health improving!!) :D

I read that to help get rid of the desire for nicotine you can take half a teaspoon of rochelle salts and cream of tartar before breakfast. Might want to look into that, too.

I have some friends who tried to quit but only survived the first week. I also know people who supposedly quit, but still smoke once and a while.

If you're going to quit, I say really quit! :)

Well, it's day two and I only want one more than I did yesterday. Can someone tell me at what point I'll stop thinking about needing a cig 24/7?

After 7-10 days. Thats how long it should take. When I first quit I started to run, you know, exercise, when ever I had a craving. After a short run, my lungs would feel like they were gonna pop. That kills a craving. Try it , youll see. Just dont over do it. It does'nt take a lot. Your lungs aren't used to it(running that is). Keep it up partner.

Well, I'm at my store for most of the day, so closing up shop and going for a run will probably be out of the question. Maybe do some jumping jacks or something? I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tips everyone...keep 'em coming.

Another thing that helped me was looking at certain websites when I had urges. This is a good one http://whyquit.com/
The story about Bryan Curtis was almost all I needed. I had just had a son and so his story really hit me in the gut.

That website made me quit smoking, and that story specifically. I am now 6 hours without a smoke, and man, I need a f**kin cigarette! Work is gonna suck tomorrow, but I know I can get through the three day hump. There's been a slew of threads lately about quitting, so I figured why not get in on the fun? :D Man I need a smoke!! Every 10 minutes or so I think "hey I'll go have a smoke". Oh yeah. I don't have any. :hmm:

Man I need a smoke!!! :D Actually, it's not that bad. I'm kinda jittery, my urges to go outside are getting a little longer in between(every 20 min. or so) and I feel pretty good. I'm really hungry almost all the time now, I think I'll be gaining some weight here in the next few weeks. Which would be a good thing, since I'm only about 150lbs. I could stand to gain 30 or 40 lbs. :p

Just like bassturtle, I had some weird dreams last night. Basically just of myself sittin on my old porch when I was a kid smoking cigarettes with my friends. First thought when I woke up....I need a smoke. :D I'm starting my own "Buttcan" of money; throwing in all my change and a 5 dollar bill everyday. In a year I should have well over $1500, so I think a nice LONG vacation out to Colorado to see my Dad would be in order.

Edit: Not that I mean to hijack bassturtles thread, but I'd rather add on to a thread about me quitting than start my own thread. (I think I feel the frustration starting to kick in... :scowl: )

It's hard but those cravings will go away even if you don't smoke. They slowly get further and further apart and weaker and weaker. Watch out for triggers though. There are certain things you are probably used to smoking while doing. Driving for example. You'll find these things will make you want a sickarette much more than a regular craving. You can defeat them one by one but they will sneak up on you if you're not careful. I still have a hard time driving. Without all the distractions involved in smoking I notice what all the other idiots are doing much more now.

I quit cigarrettes over 3 years ago. Just couldn't stand them anymore, they tasted like crap all of a sudden. After a while I picked up a few pipes and som fine pipe tobacco, but stopped every winter, can't really enjoy a pipe when it's -20 degrees celcius and smoking inside is not an option. Haven't really smoked this summer, trying to lose som weight by bicycling and my throat and lungs need to be in full working order. Great job on quitting, I hope you can keep it up, and you will definitely enjoy a higher quality of life.

I kind of quit by accident. I just wanted to cut down. But I kept cutting down and cutting down 'til the last year I was only smoking two a day and that was the WORST. I'd think about those two dang smokes all day long (like wearing a hair shirt). so finally quit last December after almost 40 years - le'see 8 months.
The cravings still come once in a while -- but less and less!
Now when I see ppl smoking it looks weird
Keep on keepin' on guys! If I could you can (2 pks a day forever)!
