Losing a good singer really sucks...

Just wait till she hits Chicago and realizes she's going to be a very small fish in a VERY big pond.

She has some good pipes, but not the best, and looks alright, but not stunningly hot. Sounds like LSD to me.

I dig the music (I've been secretly listening to your myspace tunes for awhile now...I know, I'm a stalker.) but her vocals don't seem to be the driving force there IMO. You guys are tight, and it shows. I say to find another singer and continue, maybe with another name, or at the least, keep going as a three piece until you find someone.

Yup...She loses! You guys are tight as hell. Someone could definitely fill her shoes if you looked. And if you don't find anyone, start an instrumental group.

Well we brought over another female singer tonight, and she was very good. Different voice, a bit "huskier" - more Stevie Nicks and less indie-pop. Plus she's a little bit older (early 30s as opposed to early 20s) and stable, good job, homeowner, married, not going anywhere. (The rest of us are 26, 31, 33, and 35.) She was very talented, attractive, friendly, lots of vocal experience and accolades, writes original music, plays keyboards. One of the guys and I were very much all about her. The other two were like "ehhhhh not so sure about the tone of her voice"....

UGH. So now I have 4 people split down the middle...... someone needs to be a tiebreaker.

We're hoping to at least have her come back and see how her originals hold up with the band...because all we did tonight were a few covers just to be able to hear her voice...hopefully she can write good lyrics and sway the naysayers...

I suggest you make a recording of the next rehearsal and also possibly change the key of the songs where her voice is "husky". With her experience and stability, hard to find someone like that.

were her intentions stated from the beginning (modern, not so much guitar)? if they were did everyone agree on that direction? did the guitar player override the singer? does the guitar player override the singer? if you really want to keep the band together maybe some concessions are in order. if you're doing well maybe you do need to move to a bigger market? that's a lot of questions so here's a fact: after breakup sex can be awesome!

Intentions can change over time. I've been in bands and other situations where what we were doing sounded good and was interesting to do, but not a style of music that really spoke to me. Eventually the novelty wore off, I lost interest, and moved on. The same may have happened with her. If you're in an area with relatively few good musicians and you've managed to put together a group of them that play well together she may have joined for that reason. Ultimately we want to do music that we want to do. I remember a local band with a female vocalist who had a very good bluesy R&B soul voice. She left because she wanted to do material like Pink. It's a shame that it's happened when you're getting a bit of momentum moving forward, but is probably better then it happening after the ball is rolling and picking up speed. Keep the band together with the same name unless the singer's name was part of it. You do have a good bit of time to find her replacement.

Good luck
