Louder Rig

I currently play through a GK 700Rb with a GK Neo 410. My band (death metal) just added a 2nd guitarist, so i'm now competing with 2 half stacks. I'm looking at adding a second cabinet to get a 4ohm load from my head, but wanted to get some opinions about the different GK cabs.

1. I wanted to get a Neo 210, but I just found out they were discontinued. Ampeg makes one but it's more expensive than the 410 I have now. Is the Ampeg Pro Neo worth the money?

2. Should I just add another 410, or would a 212/115 be more beneficial to my "sound"? I like lots of midrange and lots of volume. I'm aware of the arguments between the different speaker sizes, and that I should pick what sounds best to me. I've already checked Guitar center and I'd have to special order a cabinet. I'd like to know what would be my best bet before I have them order something in.
Thanks dudes.
Get a second 410 that is exactly like your current one. Pretty simple.

If this is the case, then how come I can take my 25w B-15 or my 100w V4B (or for that matter one of my 300w SVT's), turn it up all the way, and not blow speakers in my Heritage 810e, rated for 800w before fartout and 1200w before the voice coils blow? The answer is simple. Because you're wrong.
Same! I'll play my 100w V4B flat out, overdriving, into my 700w rated NV412, all night...have done many many times. Never had a problem.

This really was a painful read. JD Powwwa and his "we" associates brought the heat. Car analogies, widely disproven myths, name drops, and more powaaaaa!

Watts don't make sound, speakers do. Add an identical 4x10 and you can play around the same ear volume but your bass will be felt more. 100%. Asking your band to turn down isn't a bad idea but it hardly ever works in your genre and playing loud, visceral music is pretty dang fun too.

A lot of the tonal characteristics you may love from your amp won't be available with a higher powered GK amp until you hit a painfully loud volume.

Nope it never happened. We concede.

Tomorrow at 3-5PM on the Travel Channel there is supposed to be a Live Birthday Stream of the Party for the Owner of Schlitterbahn.

In that slot we will be staging the following (the stage is huge for 3 people, built on the edge of a giant Wave Pool at the Corpus Christi location):

2 NeoX 400's - one mainly for preamp and close in SPL, the second for backup and slaved SPL Support.

2 Stacks of 4 12's in the following configuration as Backline:
NeoX 112t
NeoX 112t
NeoX212t

Each pf the Two stacks will be Powered at 2 ohms by 2 slaved GBE1200

So, we might push 3000watts.

We really believe in matched wattage.

Pending natural disaster, national emergency, and weather, set your DVR, we will see if none of this happens.

You know, for someone who uses a lot of Genz Benz stuff, you'd come off a lot better by listening to the guy who designed it than by throwing a snarkfest.

And what ?

If it all goes off without anything blowing up, how does this show that YOU are correct versus the engineers and experts telling you differently ?

A lot of the tonal characteristics you may love from your amp won't be available with a higher powered GK amp until you hit a painfully loud volume.

It is interesting how you infer that tone comes from the power section of an amplifier.

We have found that amp characteristics between the Shuttle 12.0, 12.2, and the GBE1200 are significant within themselves, so there is some merit to what you are saying.

At on out door biker rally in a field, where there were no cords to plug the bass into the PA, and the PA had maybe 2000W at 4 ohms but the owner had plugged in 3 8 ohm multidriver cabinets of various manufacture ramping up pwer at the cost of his power transistors, the 12.0 had to be run at the ungodly level about 1 o'clock.

Why this is reiterated here, is because the usual applications of tone shaping and even some preamp volumes were actually reduced to achieve a cleaner tone.

Somewhere between the Power Amp Section coming into actual work, and the Speakers experiencing real world festival range (outdoor as opposed to a contained arena or venue) wattage, the relationship between the preamp(s) and the power sections changes notably.

Yet, just as in a studio where useful tones are made without a whole lot of power, preamps in live performance can be versatile enough to bleed a great tone to lower wattage.

Nevertheless, 40 years of collective experiences...it all never happened.
@JD Long your experience is singularly yours. Subjective and objectively yours.
Happy with your experiences and perspective. No one said it didn't happen, it simply the you are alone in your personal experiences..

MANY MANY others' (logic and science) experience (and every other sound reinforcement entity) I have ever encountered on a Professional level (also exceeding 40 years) makes your perception even more specifically singular to you.
Our personal experiences are perceptions
We don't perceive what your special perceptions perceive and science disagrees, and logic fails to concur with your fervent ascertions.

Sound waves travel to your ear via air movement.
Watts do not move air cone surface combined pistonic movement of the motor driving the voicecoil does.

In other threads @JD Long your disagree and even try to correct a prosound engineer of impeccable reputation, who also happens to be an amplification guru and designer of both cabinetry and one of the most revered amplifier lines in bassdom.
A Backline provider provides onstage monitors for musicians at large scale events.
The only people at these events who hear this equipment are the musicians themselves... the rest is done by FOH .....
So the stage volume wars by and large are for small to medium sized venues anyway.
Have a nice day. The sky is blue where I am, what color is it where you are?

Mephisto,

Just happened to be looking for the thread where Agedhorse indicated that the Sound Shaping circuit was required to be used.

Yes, he was politely confronted with the fact that the 3 filters have on off switches.

We were looking for the record to see if he backed off that position. it is believed that he did.

We have seen people run off this site for being as condescending as you.

We believe that while science has much to do with what we work with, we believe artistry and mastery is what actually makes music.

Otherwise the sequencer and synth crazed 90's would still rule and there would be no Bass Players.

And @JD Long since you are advertising very loudly your commercial status and the agenda you should purchase a commercial membership.

Wow.

have not asked anyone to buy anything.

Have nothing to sell anyone here.

Have not told the OP to go buy any brand of things.

Have not suggested that he change brands of anything because tone is a special thing that often times cannot be recreated by just any component, and sometimes from components off the same production line.

Just chasing a tone like engineers chase tones with Trident, API, and Neve Channel Strips.

If you are not into such things, you do not have to participate, but apparently it is important enough for you to have something to attack.

By the way it's not a he it's a she.FYi a brief Google search will provide the real world identity of this most verbose and inflammatory non-supporting poster. Welcome to our little corner of the world @JD Long since you spent a fair amount of time here you should probably help the provider of this space a little token of your appreciation with a PAYING membership to keep the light on. Thank you ;)

I was taking you on at your level.
Use of the Royal "we" defines condescending!
I'm entertained by this interaction.
Simply entertained.
You are entitled to your opinion. As I am to mine.
It did happen you experienced it. You were there I was not.
I did happen. It did. It did.
I'll keep on with my different experiences and be happy with my results. And you do the same. Mmmmmkay?
