Loudest, gnarly'est, cab for $1000?

An Ampeg fridge or two would be great. I've been tempted to try something like that myself when I see fridges come up locally for as low as $400. SWR Megoliath is a beast of a cab too if you can find one. Right now I use 2 Mesa PH 410's and can definitely cause some earthquakes with it. I also get an incredible full body workout when I have to move those cabs around too.

Never tried the Fearful 1515000 but it sounds br00tal.

A neo 4x12's might be a cool option too. I'd love to try out the PH 412 myself.

Two Ampeg 8x10s will get you down to 2ohms and look pretty sick too. It's a lot of load-in/load-out, but I think the volume and tone will make it very worthwhile if that's what you want. The Greenboy cabs are amazingly good, but you can get some stupid good deals on Ampeg 8x10s because some guys don't wanna haul them around anymore. If you're not picky about condition (some gashes and missing tolex) then you could come out with a few hundred bucks left over.

To play devils advocate here for a minute, I do hear some people dislike the Greenboy stuff because it's too flat and doesn't have much "character" to the cabinet. This is Exhibit A of "One man's muddy is another man's warm", but it's something to consider. You can also try your head out on an Ampeg 8x10 as nearly every Guitar Center has at least one on the floor. I can't say I've run into too many 1515/66 cabs at GC or other stores ready for you to try out, just saying :whistle:

I have never heard any one complain that one of greenboy's cabs is "too flat". Dont know where that is coming from, but calling BS.

Additionally, commonality shouldnt be mistaken for excellence.

Well I do realize claims usually call for proof, but I can't say I keep a log of all comments made about Greenboy cabs on TB handy. Since transparency and less coloration is the key for them, from what I read on here, I can see how some people might get that impression from them. As I stated before, one man's muddy is another man's warm. It might be a nice, articulate cab where all frequencies are well represented, but some guys might think it comes off "sterile" or lacks "character". As it concerns guys, it can be like taste in women, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or in this case, ear).

Please understand this isn't a knock on Greenboy stuff, I'm just tossing out some food for thought. Please, call off the rottweilers :help:

But those adjectives have never been applied to his cabs. Any of them, regardless of design goal.

Have you played them and found them so? Or can you find someone else that has?

I have owned several of his cabs and this one is really freakin' loud. Worth the grand to purchase IMO and you don't have to schlep a refrigerator from gig to gig.

Seriously?

Considering you bring up these cabs in every thread where they've not already explicitly been brought up, I suspect you'll just need to look through your own post history to find others with dissenting opinions.

Or do a search for "Fearless tube amp" or some such.

I've no experience with them myself, but I lurk enough to know what the pro and con camps have to say.

The irony of it, is that the majority of "dissenting opinions" are that the cabs have too much tonal character in the mid range, not lack of character or sterility.

I dont mind dissenting opinions. I just take issue when someone implies a dissenting opinion that the cabs are the exact opposite of what others dissent about.
