Loudness issue

I essentially bought the Harley Benton as a cheap ICEpower 700 (running into the effects return). I could take both BB2's to gigs without PA support (or a BB2 and SM in my case), but then it's more cumbersome than just taking one RS212 :/

Are you plugging your bass direct into the effects return? If so, go through the preamp instead.

As for the cab itself. BF doesn't publish the specs of their magic driver, so one can only guess. The 2-way BF cabs trade low end sensitivity for volume. They use PA midbass drivers, so might need some EQ if you want them to sound like a traditional bass cab.

Hi op. Do you have any other amps or cabs? If yes, then do some experiments.
Otherwise do a comparison of front end input vs fx return input with the HB.
Do either of these inputs cause the speaker to struggle or at least move quite a bit?

4 or 500 watts (amp near clipping) to an efficient 12" should make some serious excursion.

Better have sufficient power handling or that could be a costly experiment.

It's what's stated on the Barefaced website and I've seen numerous posts on here testifying to its accuracy
I'm confused by all of this too. I've read posts here that say a Barefaced 1x12 can outperform a modern NEO 2x12 cabinet.
The specs by Barefaced and especially GR Bass are hard to believe. It's as though they've redefined how loud a single 12" driver can go. From what I see, they are using the same basic speaker design and similar if not exact same materials.
Perhaps they measure over a different frequency range?

Jim, this is a good point in general. IME, specs seem to mean different things to different people. Without defining how the specs are measured, there is no way to know if they are accurate for comparing to other products (and in many cases they aren't).

The easiest example is power handling... is the number based on mechanical or thermal limits? If the speaker craps out mechanically at 1/2 the thermal limit, then why publish the thermal limit? How long it the power handling spec valid for... the most common (structured) test states that the driver must survive for 2 hours with a specified level of damage. In the real world, 2 hours is preposterous, and if the test is extended to say 200 hours the same driver's power handling might be only 70% of the number generated by the 2 hour test.
