Low Down Sound 15/6.5 Cab

UPDATE: Just wrote to Don and changed my order to a fEarful 15/6. Yeah, I'd love to have a monster 2x15, but I think I'll start out with the one cab and see how it works out with my band. If I need more in the future, maybe I'll add another. I also asked Don to adhere to greenboy's plans. We'll work out the details of the Patterson-built crossover as we move forward, but I want a fEarful 15/6, not an "interpretation".

A significant portion of the sound will be determined by the crossover.
I'd go with having Patterson build one of the crossovers that greenboy recommends (which are in the fEarful Wiki), but that's just me.

[edit:]...assuming that you're having LDS build your cab.

Does the type of crossover matter if you decide to go with the 15/6/1 cab?

Now that Greenboy has an excellent crossover out there for the 15/6 I would definitely suggest having Ralf use that one.

We have seen a significant difference in sound between the crossover types they offer.

That said, I would suggest, in retrospect, adding a switchable set of biamp jacks to your cab - e.g. a switch that bypasses the crossover and gives you a LO and HIGH input. Just in case :)

wow.....monster thread. =). i'm looking into one of these cabs, but the reports of it needing lots of power scare me a bit. would something like a peavey vb-2 or other 100 to 200 watt all tube heads be enough to push this cab well???? i've heard the vb-2 can get very loud, and it's my primary choice for a new head.

I wouldn't be scared of that Mr Tate. These cabs are capable of so much more than a mass produced cab is. Mine still sounds good at practice levels too (B1500 on 1).

They don't "need" a lot of power, they are capable of handling a lot of power.

+1

I have a fEarful 15/6/1 and it sounds great with my BX500 on 1.5!
I have never pushed my cab really hard because even though I am only feeding it 300W it gets pretty F'n LOUD!
