thanks for the suggestions guys...

greenboy - i have noticed that Don has 'associated' himself with the use of 8" drivers and would probably deliver on that point, no doubt

Ken - cool suggestion on the 12...that 4x6 and a 112 have the exact same cone area...that 406 does sound good...i would be using my markbass LMIII or an F1

Don does love his 8's!

Both Vision (Jason) and I drive that 112 with the LMII, and it is smokin'. I spec'd it out to get as close to the sound of an Epifani 410UL in a smaller (and of course, much lower SPL) box, and Don really hit the nail on the head. The B&C Coax 12 was expensive, but worth it.

nice...i would actually like to get two identical cabs...take one underway with me, and have two at home to be totally satisfied...maybe a gig would come up - never know! i will be away from big stage gigs like i did in seattle, because sea duty can get a little busy at times, but jamming with friends is always a possibility...i have an accugroove el whappo in the back of my hummer about to go to the UPS store for shipping and i'm already missing it :D

I'm going to be a member of the club! Here's what I specd out to Don this morning:

15/6.5/1 configuration

Box size- 30"x20"x16"

15" Driver- Eminence Kappalite 3015LF
6.5" Driver- 18 Sound 6ND410
1" Tweeter: *Selenium Tweet of your specifications

Cab covering- Tweed

Grill Cover- Oxblood Cloth

Corners- Vintage chrome

Feet- Standard rubber feet

Handles- Brown Ampeg Leather Handles on each side of the cabinet *(mounted in standard position.)

Crossover- *TBD. * L-Pads for both mid and high. *

Inputs- Two parallel speakon - 1/4 inch combo connectors. *

Just a heads up that if you are not firm and very specific about the crossover, it'll get decided for you in the background most likely :) Suggest you make up your mind on that as soon as he gets started building.

Don seemed quite flexible on the topic and had some suggestions and guidance. Combining that with much of the research done here should yield great results.

Yeah, he's flexible. You just have to know what you want, otherwise you'll get what he likes :) Which won't be bad, it just may not be precisely what you want. Just wanted to make sure YOU are making the informed decision! Good luck man.

I got the cab today! :bassist: The build quality is supurb, the tone is fantastic. I played with it for about 20 minutes over lunch break so I'll hold off on making too many tonal critiques but it immediately struck me as deep and clear. The wheels and handles make it insanely easy to move around. I'll do a more in depth reveiw tonight, I can't wait.

Sorry, I don't recall seeing a specific weight for this cab but I mighta missed it.

Don gave me weights by options that I posted when I had the honor of reviewing this cab, which is killer.

The weights on the 212/6 range from around 55 to 70 pounds, based on tweeter or not, steel grill and spray on finish versus tolex or carpet, type of handles, wheels or not, etc., etc.

The cab in question is 'loaded for bear' (spray on, metal grill, tweeter, 3" castors, heavy duty handles... three of them, , etc., etc.), so it is at the top end of that weight continuum. It still is VERY to schlepp, due to the thin depth, tall format, and tilt back design.

GREAT sounding cab IMO!

Edit: Don is finishing a new 'super duper' 8" loaded cab with the new super duper neo 'long throw' Faital 8" neo drivers. I hope to give it a brief run through on Friday, if all works out. After that, I think Don is shutting down until after the Holidays. How cool is it for a gear head like me to move a few blocks away from a bass cab manufacturer/designer just by chance. Maybe there actually is a god!!!!

That sounds like my cabinet! However, the 8" drivers are not Faitals. ;)

Yeah, it's just over 70 lbs. As KJung said, it's insanely easy to wheel around, and still not a huge pain to lift up and down.

The bedliner finish is noticably thicker and firmer than the finish on my Dr.Bass cab, smoother and darker. Could just be that it's new, we'll see how it ages. On further inspection there are several tiny bubbles in the finish. They don't make any difference to me, but just wanted to let you guys know.

Tonewise it is perfect for me. It's very responsive to EQ changes from my head, and the attenuators allow for a different tone than straightforward EQing does. Distortion and octave effects sound sweet, the mid driver adds so much clarity and evenness to the OD, while the extra depth and bass response allows the octave down to really shine. I don't have a 5-string right now, but I will be getting a warwick $$ 5-string soon and I imagine that will just rock.

Also, this thing is LOUD! I barely turn my head on and it's loud enough to fill my apartment, I can't wait to get it into a big room or stage and let it crank. When I do I'll report on how the 600w from my head pushes this cab.

Edit: Here's some pics
