That was such a great cab. So loud, light, great tone, better outside dimensions than the fearful specs. It really is a killer cab and Don did a super job on it. I know you will love it.

I sent Don an email about a cabinet I'm considering having him build. A 4ohm, 4x10 with tweeter, stacked vertically (like 2 2x10s stacked sideways). The price quoted is extremely reasonable for a custom!
Anyone have one like this or opinions/suggestions before I drop tax refund money on it? =) I usually play in small bars/clubs, sometimes outside in a cover band trio. Not blasting metal or anything.

If you can transport a long narrow cabinet (pretty much like a PA column of the days of yore), a vertical array is the way to go.
My only real concern would be with mids...since some cabinets with 10s have scooped mids (like the SWR Goliath IIs I had years ago), some have lots of juicy mids (like an Ampeg 8x10).

That is a design that can work very well and Don is the guy for the job 100%. Is it going to be sealed or vented? Which drivers. It is really going to matter.
Not sure of the details just yet. that's why I wanted some feedback from you all here at TB. Don't know what would be the best way to go as far as drivers and sealed or vented. Any suggestions?

If I were to go back to 10" drivers I would have Don do a column, for sure. I'd nix the tweeter though, not necessary for me, ported definitely.
I am commissioning Don to make me a 4x10 sealed cab that is essentially half of an 8x10 fridge cab. It will have two sealed chambers, each with a pair of 32-ohm Eminence B810's.
Unlike the fridge cab that has horizontal dividers (which creates four separate chambers), my cab will have the divider vertical, creating two vertical 2x10's, with each vertical pair having a 16-ohm load and its own input jack. My early 70's (square graphics) Ampeg B25B tube amp has two 16-ohm outputs.
This arrangement will allow me to use just one vertical pair, or both, depending on my volume needs. (For the big stuff, I have an Ampeg SVT-II non-pro into a Berg NV610). The LDS cab, along with my B25B amp, will be my practice/small venue rig. For bigger gigs, I will have the option of using a Lehle splitter box and running both rigs at the same time, and using the B25B rig for some power tube grit when desired.
The cab that Don will be building for me will have outer dimensions of 25h, 25w, 16d so that the volume per driver is the same as a fridge cab. My 24" wide B25B amp will fit nicely on top of the cab.
I just spoke with Don two days ago, and he said the lead time is running about five to six weeks.
Once I receive this cab from Don, I will post up with a tone report!

I'd probably go ported, with the correct woofers for that and then perhaps a midrange or two (upon Don's recommendation) and might skip a tweeter altogether (but that's me).
Sacto, Don can make that cab 22" wide and make up for tuning with more depth. That will make it way easier to carry. Also, are you sure that there isn't another output jack on or amp? The jack plug may act as some sort of transformer tap for the amp meaning you could just make a special speaker cable rather than make a wierd cab input jack situation. Just saying.
For the vertical 4x10, it really matters how much you want to spend. If you have some cash, use 4 eminence 2510II drivers ported. If sealed, use something else.

Congrats on the move! Wheels and handles for tilt back for the vertical 1/2 stack.
I like modular; sooner or later the need to transport in a smaller vehicle shall present itself.... 2 - 2x10 cabs stacked vertical makes sense to me ....

It's gonna be easier to move, and you can use one cab for smaller things.

2510's are 8 ohms, and therefore a 4x10 would also be 8 ohms.
He is looking at a 4 ohm cabinet.
so he needs either 4 ohm or 16 ohm drivers.
4 BP102's would put out a lot of Low end, but would require a mid driver for many people's tastes. I think you can get the Faital 10FE's in 16 ohm, and you are the only one with experience with that driver that I know of.
