Thanks a bunch man, I really appreciate that! I am still learning to use the cab- the 3-way concept is so perfect for bass it seems (YMMV). Being able to have REAL low end and better control over the mids and highs is quite a thing of beauty.

Trying the mini head route. Carvin sent me a deal I could not resist. As far as I can tell them and Mesa are the only ones that do 2ohms.

I've got a question for you LDS owners. From what I have seen, most of the larger cabs (15/6, 1212/6, 1515/6 etc..) do not have casters or only have tilt-back style casters. The 1212/6/1 that I own came with pop-out casters. Is there any other reason besides the fact that the cabs aren't super heavy (or just taller in nature) that people only use tilt-back style or no casters at all? I have only used the cab with the casters in, am I losing anything by not having it coupled to the floor?

I did a search here and in the Greenboy threads and really couldn't find an answer.

Gotcha! I kind of figured that was the main reason for most of the taller, narrow style cabs. The tilt-back style makes so much sense.

How about the low end coupling? Is there any loss on casters as opposed to being on the floor? Being that I have 2 of the 3012LF's, I assumed I would get a little more clarity being isolated from the floor. Or maybe not, this is my first 3-way style cab and I'm still figuring things out.

I wish I could give you a good (or any) answer to that as I have not compared a similar cabinet that had casters on the bottom of the cabinet. However, I don't think you need to worry about that unless you are regularly playing on a hollow, boomy stage. The bass control on your amp is your best friend as these cabinets with 3012LF drivers have a nice well extended, deep bottom end so you may want to roll off the bass if you are not used to such prodigious real bass. By itself my old 2126 seemed a bit out of balance, tonally, but once I was playing with the band - OMG! It was such an amazing sound. :bassist:

I have pop-out casters on my 15/6. I leave them in all the time. I have tried it without and the only noticeable effect is lack of convenience. I can't remember the exact height but, believe you have to be much higher than 2.5" to lose floor coupling.

I had my 15/6/1's designed so that I could leave the casters in, lay them on their sides, and have the cabs still line up "vertically". I had no desire to constantly remove and install the casters. Although the tilt-back casters are super convenient, they never sit quite flat, which messes with my OCD...:D

Can anyone share with me how much their recently-ordered LDS cabs cost? I'm looking to get sort of a ballpark for various cabs before I contact Don to see about getting something built.

I really want something portable and loud, so I can replace my full-stack and combo, and be able to bring it to rehearsals and gigs without destroying my back.

Thinking of Don's take on the 12 or 15 + 6 craze, no tweeter. I owned until a few months ago a very old 3-way cab by Don, but never used it because tonally it was no longer doing it for me. This was built around the same time Greenboy was polishing the fEarful design, and Don's cab had no components in common with that.

I'd prefer good clarity but not hi-fi sounding. Honestly, the Black Widows in my Peavey cab are great: Big bottom end with just enough highs. But that thing is a beast to move.

For portability sake, I'm thinking of tilt back casters and telescoping handle. I had a removable unit on my old cab, and I transplanted it onto my TC combo, but I'd rather it all be built in on the next cab.

@pbass6811, you should put the LDS badges on swivels, kind of like the old PS2 used to have with the PS symbol on the CD tray, so they rotate to the proper position no matter how it's standing.

Thanks, @SickAura. Don's prices are very reasonable. I've just got to get in touch with him and see what he would recommend for my general tonal goals.

Part of me thinks I should just go for the 3012 + mid since it's a pretty well liked design, but then there are so many other options and choices.
