Don mentioned a familiar name as to who was doing it but I don't want to start anything without actual proof. Plus, it didn't quite add up. Oh well....just happy to have my new cab soon.
I have so many ideas for cabs for each of my amps that I am starting an LDS fund for a 310/115, a pair of 112's and maybe even some sort of cab with neo 8's. The 4x8 cabs are what introduced me to Don's cabs.
Something like this, perhaps?

Yes. That is cool. I was thinking about a long throw 4x8 cab like Ampeg made back in the 90's and running my 400rb through it. I also am thinking of buying the Mesa Prodigy head and using it with a modular cab.
I posted a NCD thread a few days back, but I guess I should post here too now that I own and really dig my LDS cab. So much thunder, it's a beast with my Streamliner 900! 3012LF's, Faital W6N8-120 6.5" mid and Eminence ASD 1001S-8 hi freq driver. I got it (barely) used, it was built earlier this year and belonged to another TB'er. He referred to it as the "Hell Hammer" earlier in this thread- It more than lives up to that name and I'm keeping the moniker. In fact I'm looking at getting that embroidered on a soft cover for it!
I got to use the Hell Hammer at rehearsal last night for the first time and I am so blown away. It kept up with a loud Marshall half-stack and loud-@$$ drummer with ease. I've used the house 810 in the same room and it sounded one dimensional compared to this cab. The 3-way design just opens the bass up. It never sounded stressed, EQ changes really made sonic differences as opposed to just making "the bass louder"- for lack of a better desription.
One thing I noticed, the room is small-ish, but I never found the bass too boomy or over-powering.. even with 3 mics open. Normally the 810 and drums just hog the sonic space (to my ears), even at lower volume. Vocals were clear as a bell last night with no weird bass overtones. Very cool. Looking forward to gigging with it.

Here's a shot of my new LDS single 15". On my first gig with it the band loved it. The stage we play on is really wide and not very deep but the dispersion was really great. The keyboard player on my far right said it sounded great whereas he usually hasn't heard me much except through the monitors. Nice deep, low end and I feel like I barely pushed it.
If the house 8x10 to which you refer is a traditionally-voiced cab, presumably an SVT, then that would likely account for the dramatic difference you hear. Any cab with a 3012LF or 3015LF in it is going to fill out the deep bass frequencies far better than any traditional 8x10, yet won't hype the mid-bass to low midrange like the 8x10 does. It's that big bump around 100 Hz - 500 Hz or so that accounts for most of the boominess and mud that you hear from a traditionally-voiced cab - at one time thought necessary in order to allow the electric bass to be heard in the mix at all...despite that range being a busy one, with several instruments often competing to be heard.

I'm glad that cab is serving you well my friend. Had I not had recurring back pain issues I would have kept the HH but I'm glad someone is getting some good use from it!
Hey Doug! That cab is an absolute beast. It's been fun at rehearsal, I finally get to gig it this weekend. With the new bass of course..

I've an LDS 4x8 with B&C 8NW51's, and a pair of LDS 2x8's with Faital Pro 8PR200's. I'm not sure whether it's the driver or the cabs, but these are the best sounding cabs I have (or have tried).
I finally got to gig the "Hell Hammer" this past saturday and I am impressed! There was no PA support (dive bar, punk show) but the 2x12 held up with AND dominated a Marshall half stack/loud drummer. For my tonal goals it is such a fantastic pairing with my Streamliner 900. It sounded good onstage but when I watched the video back you would've sworn there was bass in the PA. It filled the room evenly and in the right sonic spaces. This cab was well worth every penny.

Cab cuts in the room well.. But i was so distracted by the performance.. I'm sorry.. No one is playing in time with each other the intro and 1st verse into chorus.. . Is that the way its supposed to be?
