I have a shuttle 9 and will A/B it with my M9 through the LDS squat 15/6 when it arrives this week. I doubt it can match the M9 but I'll listen with open ears.....

Can I ask you to do a favor? Would you listen first to the LDS "squat" 15/6 with the Shuttle 9 and post those impressions separately before you compare it to the M9?
There don't appear to be any reviews posted of the Shuttle 9 and an LDS or a fEarful 15/6, and I would like to read some absolute rather than comparative comments. I imagine some others who might not be Mesa fans or who want the smaller size and weight of the Shuttle 9 would appreciate it as well.
By all means do the A/B comparison with the M9 as well and post your comparative comments. I think both types of reviews will be helpful and appreciated, insofar as there don't appear to be any others out there now.

I've had a couple of days with my new LDS 15/6. It's the squat version, identical to Ukiah's except for metal corners. No tweet. Duratex. The fit and finish are 1st class all around and it was packed like a tank. Weighs about the same as my Epi UL2-310, around 45 lbs. Note this is a preliminary impression based on practice with and without the full band. I placed it on a stand about 20" off the ground and compared it to my 310 with both M9 and Shuttle 9 heads. Dingwall Afterburner 1-5.
I now understand what Kjung means when he talks about getting grindy mids from a traditional 2 way cab when the low freq driver is pushed (as in my 310), compared to the cleaner mids and bigger bottom that I hear from the 15/6. He can have those grindy mids
, I'll take the smoother, clearer mids, thank you. I didn't mess with the mid attenuator at all-just left it at its' "normal" midpoint. It was just as easy to hear myself as with the 310, but the mids are definitely clearer and cleaner. The bottom is fatter, deeper and wider than the 310, which is not bottom-shy in its' own right. This cab gets louder in both the mids and lows than my 310.
The Shuttle 9 sounds great through it, but I have to apologize for not spending that much time with the Shuttle plugged in, since the M9 sounds so much more punchy, powerful and deep through it. I know both are rated about the same at 8 Ohms, but the M9 crushes the Shuttle in terms of volume, even accounting for gain slopes. I was able to absolutely dime the Shuttle (earplugs mandatory) and was worried I'd shatter a window....but neither my ears nor the rehearsal space (aka my basement laundry room
) could tolerate the M9 master beyond 1 o'clock. Apart from the volume advantage, the M9 instantly and easily gave that incredibly pleasing chest thump I crave-this combination gave me the most gorgeous low-mid punch I've ever produced. The 310 is FS. I'll keep the Shuttle 9 for convenience, but since my gigs are sporadic, the M9-15/6 will see all of them and happily, luxuriously exceeds my nominal gigging needs
! I'll post again after my next gig in late April. For you real pros and regular weekend warriors, I can safely say that although this 15/6 may or may not not equal a 410 in volume,given enough power it surely goes lower, louder, cleaner than the Epi 310. At around 700 this cab is not only the best I've played yet, it's also the best deal.

Chest Thump is exactly what I love about the 15/6. No other cab I owned or played thru besides an Ampeg 810 or Peavey 412 gave me the chest thump that this cab does. Considering that those cabs were probably triple the weight, its just a fantastic cab.
I really wish I was playing a loud volume gig tomorrow, instead the small pub my band is playing tomorrow. I really cant wait to blast my 15/6 and new carvin bx1500.

Since my back blew out, I have sold my 400+ (going with a Bass Terror) and am changing my order with Don (I think he is scheduled to start my cab in about a week or so). I was originally going to have him do a vintage sounding 15 + 10 for my 400+, but now am considering basically what you have, sans one of the 12's and rear ported (so a 1x12 + 2x6.5 in one box). Since I am a tube-dude who frequently likes some grit, how to those two 6.5" mid drivers sound? I am SLIGHTLY concerned about brittle string/fret/finger noise coming through them, especially when there is a little overdrive happening. any thoughts?

Those are Em DeltaLiteII's and the 6's are Alphas, I believe, which I find a little brighter/cleaner/clearer than the 18Sound 6ND or whatever was in my 15/6; and in fact, I like the tone of the Alphas better. (though I think either mid driver is a better choice with a tube amp than any horn-yuck!)

If it were me, thinking about doing what you're talking about, I think maybe I'd lean towards one 3012HO and one Alpha 6...but be sure and ask Don about that in terms of best results for your specified tone goals. He's pretty good about matching parts/build to tone goals.

The alpha 6 cannot keep up with a 3012Ho in the mids - it's really 100db or so @ 400+hz.
You will want two alphas or a 6nd410 or a beyma 605nd, period.
If you are OK with the Fr of a closed back driver a single Alpha 8mra or Alphalite 6cbmr would work too. But a single alpha will be quite shy even without padding.

Liam and RPSands - I am also pairing the LDS 1x12/2x6.5 with an Aggie GS112NT, So it will be modular - thus easier to move and I could use just the LDS for smaller gigs/practice and both for mid-sized to larger gigs.
CHef - THANKS for the feedback - I really appreciate it. I will talk to Don about the Alpha 6. Do you know if it is the Alpha 6a or 6c?
