I get a tiny tiny bit of hiss through my F1-> 15/6, but it's not audible over background noise (people walking around and talking, setting up drums, etc) unless you get ear up to the cabinet.

All horns hiss some if you have hiss in your signal chain, but that is just a fact of life. The Markbass amps are noisier than some, absolutely, and the Sansamp stuff is noisier than hell in my opinion (played an RBI quite a bit).

The big thing to note about this cab is that I've compared recordings of my DI to board and a mic on the cab and it's basically indistinguishable. I would not bother using it in the studio. It's so uncolored that it adds next to nothing.

I've experienced this with the Carvin DCM2000L/Tech 21 VT Bass and the LMTube. I demo'd this cab using the power section of a few tube amps owned by my guitar player, but I don't recall whether it was noisy with those or not. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this issue...? It's not enough to be noticeable in playing situations, but I imagine it would be problematic in a studio setting.

I haven't noticed any hissing with mine running my Genz Benz ShuttleMax6

FYI, Don is bringing over a 15/6 tomorrow prior to shipping. So, I'll be able to add a video clip with a couple different heads (Puma and F1, which both sound wonderful with this spec IMO) to my Youtube channel.

I'm looking forward to playing one of these again, since it has been a while.

Here's a beautiful 15/6 in Cream tolex with tan 'cane' grillcloth and chrome hardware.

Don needed to get this one shipped, so didn't have time for a clip. However, it sounded great.. big, and plenty of brightness with the 6 if needed.

Amen. I just recorded a scratch track straight into the board, and then plugged back into my GK and 212/6/1 and it sounded almost identical. The cab was a little smoother and forgiving in terms of string noise, and was fuller sounding than the crappy headphones I was recording with, but it was the same tone.

No offense, but I played your cab and Rpsands prior to shipping, and they sound TOTALLY different:D (and both sounded totally awesome in their own way). So, which one is 'flat':p

Better to not talk about 'flat and uncolored'. There is no such thing:smug: I've heard literally EVERY piece of gear made decribed as 'sounding just like going into a mixing board':D

No offense again but a lot of that is almost surely attributable to near field artifacts from standing close to a taller cab, KJ. The mid driver is higher as is one of the woofers. Out in the room 20+ feet away our cabs probably sound quite similar assuming cool has a similar crossover network. That's probably the only other difference.

These are not perfectly flat and uncolored obviously, but it's so similar that chances are good if I posted a DI and a mic'd recording you couldn't tell the difference.

Nope... I listen to these at various places around the room, sitting, standing, off axis, on axis, various volumes, various heads, various basses. Of course the cross-over was somewhat different, due to the 12's versus 15's, and the two way versus three way... that was my point:p... very different sounding cabs with different components, and yet both of you say that they sound identically to a bass through a mixing board. That could very well be true, depending on the bass and the EQ on the board, type of board, and playback system:smug:

Of course, if you are using a bass like a P Bass with old flats or something, almost every cab sounds the same. However, if you are using a full range instrument with relatively new roundwounds, it is amazing how different EVERY single cab design can sound.

:) Not doggin' you are all. I LOVE that cab you have! It's just when we start talking about 'uncolored', things rapidly get silly. Acme's are flat, Accugrooves are flat, 15/6's are flat, Bergantino IP's are flat.. etc, etc., and not only do they each sound TOTALLY different from each other, but even different VERSIONS of those cabs within the same line sound VERY different from each other (except the Acme's... pretty amazing that the 110 really does sound exactly like the 210... just not as loud).

Yeah, you have to throw a "relatively" in there...

Speakers aren't flat. Heck - even the flattest cone speaker systems have order of magnitude more distortion than a horribly unflat amplifier.

You want to talk about flat in preamps, amps, cables... sure. You want to talk flat in transducers? Forget it. Even measurement mics aren't "flat", and speakers at their best don't even come close.

Yet even though they sound completely different - they could all be equally flat. They could each be +/-3dB from 20Hz to 20kHz and each sound completely different... because that flatness doesn't tell us anything about where its humps and dips are.

Thanks for the comments and pic, Ken. If it arrives by mid-afternoon, I'll try it out at my blues band's Happy Hour gig on Friday and post my initial impressions.

I'm anxious to hear and see it, of course. I chose the covering and trim materials to match the beautiful custom case made by Steve Azola for the Eden VT-300 I recently purchased from him.

Very nice! Steve does seem to enjoy taking tube gear apart and making new "homes" for them. :D
