My order to Don initially specified just that: tweed covering with oxblood grillcl coth. Then I bought the Eden head with its blonde & cane head case and decided to match it. I doubt I'm done with LDS-made fEarful designs, however, and I may end up with that tweed/oxblood cab yet.

Now that Spring is here, my father in law will be able to get the tolex on both cabs. I have all the drivers and extraneous hardware on hand, and Tom Lees, the Technical Editor for Bass Gear Magazine, is putting together my crossovers.
So, I'm hoping that I might have them both ready to go by the end of April.
Hooray! The white-purple-and-orange truck brought my blonde fEarful 15/6 from LDS this morning. With apologies for the poor-quality cell phone picture, here is a pic of it with the Eden VT-300 in a matching case.

It has the Eminence 3105LF and 18 Sound 6nd410, but no horn or tweeter. It's crossed over around 800 Hz and I committed the reviled heresy of specifying a variable attenuator--and I'm glad I did. Don's general construction, fit and finish are superb. It'll look great on stage with the vintage Fender tweeds (and boutique clones of vintage Fender tweeds) in my blues band.
I haven't had any time to try out various EQ settings or volume/gain structures, and obviously the drivers aren't broken in yet. But I did check the connections with the Eden tube head and a new Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.0. What a cab! Big, deep and solid low end. On the tight side, not at all flabby or loose. Fantastic mids. And everything was clean and tight. The all-tube Eden was a little warmer, of course; but the Shuttle 9.0 sounded closer than any 4-lb. cigar box has a right to sound. By merely turning the tone knob on my passive Precision and pushing a couple of tone shaping buttons on the Shuttle 9.0, I got an amazing array of tones. I already understand why current users say it can sound like anything.
Volume? Being in the house limited the degree to which I could test its sensitivity, but it sounded great at lower volume settings and just got better as I opened it up--as much as I dared. (Mrs. Bluesy had already set the dining table for Easter dinner, so plates and glasses shook and rattled!) At 2:00 o'clock volume settings on my bass and either amp, this cab was stupid loud--rattling and moving the furnishings. This cab has to be as loud as my Berg HT115 and HT210 paired together.
I can't wait for the drivers to break in and to have an opportunity to properly experiment with various EQ settings. And I'm already considering whether the new 12/6 I'll order should have the matching blonde/cane trim or something different.

And... I'm getting a one way 3015 cab, so I'm going a little more 'old school' also... although not THAT old school!

Ya know, I don't want to sidetrack here, but as Far as the schlepp goes, Don will be building my cab from the lightweight 3/4 ply he has, and the K140's are lighter than the E140's I'm used to schlepping. Actually, I've found that a 215 is easier to get into a hatchback than smaller cabs. I just roll it out the door, tip it into the back, and shove. Smaller cabs you tend to carry out to the car, and then go back and get the other small cab and carry that one !

+1 I never, ever would use two cabs on a gig.. pain in the patoot! I'm a big fan of castors and a single cab to do the job (depending on volume needs). As long is the cab is around or under 60 pounds (like my neo 410's), I can easily carry them up and down stairs, and lift them onto high stages myself, which is key in my 'freelance' world.
Yup, that's the way to go. Since I will be using this cab in my wedding/private function band with PA support, most of the gigs are in banquet halls and an easy schlepp : roll it in, then roll it out. At age 61, I don't need no stinkin' stairs, man. !
Even though I gig rarely I used to feel that 2 lighter cabs was preferrable to 1 large cab. That was based on my desire not to carry anything over 50 lbs on ice or up stairs, but now that I have a 45 lb LDS 15/6 with a head that packs a wallop, I am firmly in the "one box" mindset. A 2nd cab would be overkill for anything but a very large or outdoor venue without PA for me.

I don't think I'll freak, but I'm anxious to see the pictures and it will give me a nostalgic pang. I've probably played more Classic Soul and R&B than anything (we appear to have many of the same tastes) and most of it through JBLs in black tolex cabs. I'm sure it will sound great. If I had a regular horn band gig right now, I'd have something like that, too--and I'm also 61.
Right now, I'm really excited about the sounds and volume from Blondie and, at less than 50 lbs., she'll be no problem to haul into the typical blues club (or anywhere else). But I'm anxious to see the pics of your JBL-packed 2X15. What's the ETA?
Yeah, we're cut from the same cloth, it seems, for my second band is a straight ahead blues band! Don told me at least 8 weeks before he can even start, so I'm not holding my breath. ( he digs the JBL's too ! ). I was lucky to stumble on to some still new in the box JBL K140's - never been used! I have tried smaller cabs, 3 ways, etc., but found myself wishing they would sound like those old JBL's - clear, bright, and crunchy on top, with some whump on the bottom. Actually, the Scroeder BMF 215 is the model I was going on, and I'm gonna use Jorg's tweeter in my 215. I'll just deal with the weight issue, can't be worse than lugging around a 215 made from MDF, loaded with E140's, like I used to !
