I believe you like a bigger old school 2 x 15 tone, if I remember correctly. Yes, the Genz is much tighter and more mid present than that sort of voicing, as are the 3012HO and 3015HO type cabs to my ear.

I believe you like a bigger old school 2 x 15 tone, if I remember correctly. Yes, the Genz is much tighter and more mid present than that sort of voicing, as are the 3012HO and 3015HO type cabs to my ear.
Actually I like the sound of JBL E140's, which to my ears, are the brightest sounding 15's I've ever heard, so," sorta " old school in that regard. The 215/tweeter cab Don built for me with K140's and the titanium tweeter sounds really good, but, as usual, I would love something smaller with that type of tone. I thought the HO's might be closer to that .
Quite different IMO. Those K140's roll off way before that tweeter kicks in to my ear.. very smooth. The HO's are right there (and even bumped) all the way up to 2K+ I believe... very bright and grindy.
Jim B. has done a good job with his proprietary 12's in the AE212... still quite bright and top end present, but pretty smooth, with much more inherent deep low end than I've heard out of the HO boxes (15's or 12's). Of course, I guess the HO's can take some low end EQing, but I always like to have a box that doesn't need a lot of EQ to get it where I want it, since I use all in one heads without super low end sculpting power.

Yeah, I would love to try the AE212, and, from what I remember from your clips, had more low end than the TC, although 212 vs. 112 in that regard. How would you compare the AE 212 to the GB 212T ?
Better in virtually every way... smaller, deeper, smoother, just as punchy... just a higher quality box all the way around... better tweeter... everything.
With Mesa style Tolex® the cabinet cost $700. I have not weighted it yet but I think it is around 60 lbs., and it's outside dimensions are 36"H x 18"W x 16"D.
He will be in Detroit for the next 6 months or so (+/- a few), but the move to Seattle process has started. It shouldn't really impact his order delivery that much... just a week out of town here and there at this point.

Half a year is way to long to wait, and what rubs me the wrong way is he is still telling people 8-10 weeks.
I ordered 5/18 and payed in full.
Just tell people you are the most economical custom builder and you will get it when I can get to it!

It will impact delivery once he gets to Seattle.... Simply because I'll be over at his shop every chance I get demo'ing all of his new stuff
That is a strange situation. I know Don is not the most organized guy, and I have heard of a few orders slip through the cracks, especially if the customer does not call and check up on occasion. The good news is, he will immediately refund if the customer is not happy.
Don has tightened up that part of his business a touch, but being organized from a business perspective will never be his strong point
It seems that the majority of customers are getting their cabs in a 'reasonable' amount of time.
Try to hold on a bit longer if you can. There have been some significant family concerns as of late. While I agree that waiting sucks, he's only human. However, I would give him a call and let him know that your anxious to get your cab. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that....
What I try to do with these long waiting periods is just enjoy my other gear and somewhat "pretend" I dont have anything else in the works until it shows up.

That is the cab of my dreams man! I spoke with Don a few month back about a 412 but I think this just took it's place. Hows it sound with the tube head? I'd be running it with a firebass 700 or Sunn 300T. have you ran it in mono yet?

That's mine, I've had it for about 6 months, and after my last gig some gorilla broke it in for me.
It looks like they dropped it onto its casters, or jumped on the whole cab, and one of the front casters got torqued. Instead of bending the massive steel casters, the plywood surrendered. The wood is torn from the front edge of the port straight back about 6".
It's a $#@%ing shame what people will do to your stuff if you give them a chance. I normally handle all my equipment but we had to load out quickly and some people "helped". :scowl:
So what to do? Shipping it back to Don for repair isn't really feasible - the shipping costs alone are prohibitive and I don't want to be without it. My first plan is to get another piece of plywood, cut it to match the bottom dimension of the cabinet, paint it black, use Liquid Nails and plenty of wood screws to attach it to the bottom of the cabinet, and re-mount the casters in that. The whole thing should be stronger than before, but the cabinet was already a little unstable on the wheels from being so narrow and tall. This would make it another 3/4" taller.
I've got a couple weeks to get a solution before I need to use it on stage, so any suggestions are welcome. I'm kinda blue about this situation - I don't care about cosmetic damage to the tolex or grille - it's a tool, not a museum piece. But to $#@%ing crush 3/4" plywood? Some people just shouldn't be allowed in public.

Wow, that is a drag. It sounds like someone tried to pick it up, but could'nt do it and dropped it. What was in that cab anyway ?
Could be, but this cab is actually very light. Anyway, doesn't really matter how it happened. I just need to get it mended without doing more harm.

last time this happened, my MarkBass F1 and computer bag never made it to the truck. thankfully, they did show up at the event venue's office the next day.
I think a repair panel could work.
cut a good square hole, make a cardboard template of that, transfer it to a new piece of wood.
you could slot for biscuit joinery.
you could put s trip over the top of all joined surfaces from the inside, and 1x1's along interior joined surfaces, and screw/glue all that together.
i've had that happen before, and therefore just don't let folks help me anymore, hurried, harried or not.

In spite of the time delay I can't wait to get this. I'm not a "cork sniffer" when it comes to tone, but I know I don't want the top end extension brought on by tweeters and some mids, and certainly don't want the abyss of low end that the LF drivers have. I'm a mids guy. When I get it I'll probably play it for a while to get the speakers broken in before I comment at all. Still, can't wait.
