Great timing on the new thread! Don brought over a really nice 4 x 8 with tweeter today (8ohm). Heavy duty Eminence 'long throw' Eminence ceramic 8's with the super duper sizzly Selenium tweeter. Cab is purple tolex, and just looks great. Rear tube port, about 60 pounds, attenuator on the side, heavy duty handles.
Not sure who the lucky customer is.
Here's a clip! Interesting tone... very tight, punchy, modern... lot's of top end if you want it, and a very 'pleasantly compressed' tight, burpy low end. It can get pretty big sounding if you want it to also. Nice box.

It's a nice box.... pretty 'kick you in the chest' sort of tone, and very present way up top with that Selenium tweeter.
Hey Ken, has Don said anything to you about his potential move to Seattle? He mentioned it to me on the phone a while back, but I haven't taken the time to follow up with him on that.
He would like to do that to get closer to his family, and also to get to a place with a little more vibrant music scene (things are pretty dead in Detroit these days). Nothing is for sure, but he is planning on it in the next 6 month to a year if 'the stars line up' (i.e., house sale, wife's job, etc.).
I hadn't seen him in a while... he is slugging through his orders, finally getting back to a more reasonable delivery time.
He was talkin about maybe Phoenix too onceI was keeping my fingers crossed for that
He has family there also, but I think Seattle is the goal.
Ken- Will you have the opportunity to play through my 1515/66 before it ships? It's the one with the misapplied Durex finish.
Not sure about that one. I'm on the road gigging this weekend, and then gone for a week for the Holiday.
I have played through an almost identical cab, and it just KILLED... almost overwhelmingly killed, for a guy used to playing out of a little panzy 410. You are going to totally dig it. Those dual 18sound 6's (if that's the brand you are getting) are really something, and of course, the dual 15 LF's are bone crushing!
Excellent- the cab is going straight to the NYC club The Bitter End, where it will see service at the Richie Canatta's (Billy Joel) Monday Night Jam. They have a Hartke 4x10 on the stage as the house cab, but at least for a couple of times I'm going to let my buddy George Panos (house bassist at the jam) rock the Monster through a WW Ultra- should fill the room nicely, before even thinking about the house pa.
The cab will also be used at The Riverhead Blues Festival this July 18th. Although I doubt that I'll be playing very loud (we're at the small stage, a 200 seat auditorium), I like to create good visuals on stage...oh yeah, and sound good too
The cab is built exactly to the fEarful Monster specs (3015lf's, 6nd410's, x/overs, etc.), save for variable attenuators for the horn and mids.

NICE! That Ultra should sound very good with that cab. That cab sounds great at any volume. I had my little Markbass F500 driving the 1515/66 a while back and it was just fat and full, even at living room volume.

Would you be able to compare this cab to the 2x8 that had a 6" mid vertically aligned that you tried out a while ago?
Ken, In your video, you mention the LDS cab is warmer than the MarkBass. I find my LDS 410LGST to be warmer than the MarkBass 104hf, also. It seems, all the MarkBass cabs emphasize the mid content.
Quite a bit different. This cab has a lot going on in the lower mids, and a lot going on in the upper treble. That 2 x 8 with the 6" was 'brighter' and more present in the upper mids (not surprisingly), not nearly as treble extended (again, not surprisingly comparing the 6" mid driver to the very sparkly Selenium tweeter). The nature of the low end 'tight and punchy' was similar (that 2 x 8 had some super duper neo 8's in it that Don feels are pretty close to the sound of the ceramic 8's he typically uses), but of course, the much smaller box with only two of them didn't hammer like this one.
This box is like a tighter, punchier Epifani 310UL to my ear... more mid punchy, and it seems to put out about the same volume (even though it is a much smaller box).
