How are you recording that "Rising Sun Blues" ? Is it just with the video camera mic? If so, that is remarkable how full your bass tone is on that clip.

All the details of recording are noted on the Soundcloud link/notes section. Briefly, I used a stereo mic recording in WAV format on a digital recorder. I put the WAV file inside the video clip and aligned it in place of the camera's recording. The videocamera's mic was not bad, but not good enough. It's a simple technique with huge improvement in sound.

Huh. I thought that a video camera's mic was probably not transferring that good of tone.

Sounds *very* good.

LDS is the only place to get them. They are a one man operation. Very good quality product at a reasonable price, but be prepared to wait at least 2 or 3 months before your cab starts being built. It seems the word is out and he's a busy boy as a result.

Edit: if you are interested in a 15/6 style cab there are other builders. Check the fEarful wiki.

My 2 cents here: I'm pretty much a rock player pushing 2-2 x 10 LDS cabs through an LH1000 (use Speakons). The amp is a gusher of power & tube tone, probably more than I need, but when in a rock situation, with these cabs, I can get that Precision tone & grind at any volume.

The cabs are not light, but the punchy mid-ranges, and the depth of bass is clean, consistent and makes playing more about my skill to deliver the right notes than worrying at all about the gear.

Don...DON'T MOVE...NOT YET!

Don't forsake the tweeter. Like Chef, I dial in about 30 percent. YMMV

Hey Mike,

The pictures of cabs on the website are quite old, and were all custom cabs spec'd by customers. The best way to get a feel for the cabs Don is currently making is to page through the mega thread that just closed (when this one was started... it is the Low Down Sound V2 thread).

Don is a pure costum builder, so there are no 'already made cabs'. He builds them one at a time per customers specs.

He used to have a full range bass guitar retail store, but that closed down a while ago due to the economy in Detroit. He now is focused 100% on his custom cab business.

Neither. I want to try something different, and they have a fine reputation among some of the people I respect on these forums.

Thanks for the info Ken. I guess I'll have to suck it up and order one and then wait.

All I want is a nice and efficient single 15 to run with my Scroeder 212, but I'm tired of the same old 15's already out there.

I'd +1 that. The baffle Schroe's are a very voiced design, very high SPL (in the low mids anyway), and would be hard to match up with a more 'normal' cab.

Assuming you have a baffle 1212L or R, the key to opening up the low end of that cab and evening it out is to have an amp with EQ in the right places.... boosting way down low (below 60hz, cutting significantly in the 'upper low mids' around 300 or 400 hz, and boosting the upper mids around 1K). I've found the Markbass F1 to be the best match for that particular cab... a bit of boost at 40hz, a bit of cut at 380hz and a bit of boost at 800hz, combined with a little more sweetening with the VPF in very dry rooms (which boosts bass even lower, cuts more mids, and sparkles up the top a bit) works pretty nicely. The GK MB500 also has the EQ points in the right place for that cab.

Ah, that cab is a different deal (still mid voiced, but much more even than the 1212L.... attenuated down low, but pretty even with limited peaks and valleys from the upper bass through treble).... no problem with that.

Yes-I pmed you. It's the best cab I've ever played, by a wide margin (prev cabs=Epi UL2-112,210,310, Schro 1212L and 15+L, Eden 112, Walkabout 12 and 15). Louder than the Epi 310 on its' own and prolly as loud (or dern close) to the 310/210 stack, which I loved. I still love all those cabs, but the 15/6 with about 500 watts, elevated on a stand, has me content:p

I blew the 3012LF driver on my LDS 12/6 cab. It was my fault. It was a loud outdoor gig and I normall play those with the 15/6 cab. I was gunning for more volume and overdid it. The amp was 725 watts and I had engaged the preamp boost option on my ShuttleMAX12 amp, and the passive bass volume knob was on full. Amp volume knob was at 2:30ish. I don't think the 18Sound mid driver was damaged as higher notes are clear. I ordered a new 3012LF. Live and learn.

It did sound good, though, before it blew.

I have an outdoor gig this Sat- I would never tryu that with a 12......ANY 12, LOL. I am debating the 15/6 alone or possibly putting an Epi 210 under it. I think I may just fly with the 15/6 and M9.....even outdoors (with our PA of course).
