I'm sorry Don hasn't been estimating accurate build times lately. I received my 15/6.5 cab in mid-2009. He quoted me 4 weeks, but it ended up being closer to 6 weeks. I had no problem with that at all, and I knew there was a lot of conversation about the crossover in that cab at the time.

After I got the cab, I realized the 15 was actually the non-LF version. Don apologized and had Parts Express ship me an LF. I used the same box to pack the non-LF, and it was picked up at my house a couple days later and sent back to PE.

A few months later, I also found that the frame on my 18 Sound 6ND410 was cracked. I informed Don, and, again, he had his supplier send me a brand new 6ND410, and I sent the old one back.

I'd say Don does his best, and his customer service has been great for me. I hope you all get your cabs very soon.

Call him. His e-mail responses seem a bit hit-or-miss lately. Probably because he's so busy.

I've thought to do that but that would be a very real interruption while I suppose he checks emails when he's not busy working on cabs. Still, it might put my mind at ease...

How this for a good trade a LDS 8x8x8x1 cab, Sound great at church and my first LDS cab but not my last.

As I speculated and Ken also confirmed, Don has thin profit margins and lots of orders. Guess what will come next?
I was lookin for a big cab for outdoors and my local discount retailer has a Mesa 2x15 and an Ampeg 8x10 that are new old stock in the 600.00 range but I chose LDS Nearful 2x15/66 for more, because I expect it will be better and easier to handle as the others are much heavier. Good snag on the multiple 8 box.

A while back I had Don build me a 2X8 Three Way Cabinet with B&C neo drivers, tweeter and midrange controls on the side (easier to reach), and road spray covering. He was using B&C Neo's at the time. This cabinet is a real winner. Don's kind of the Walter Woods of Bass Speakers. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Finally received the LDS 4x8 I orderred back in February. It has ceramic 8's and the Selenium tweeter. There is a picture and a loink to a review with sound bites if you scroll up a page or two. This cab sounded great at rehearsal and great at the gig. It has lots of punch and the tweeter is aggressive enough to sit in the mix with the drums and perciussion. Naturally it is not as loud as the Ampeg SVT 8/10 cab sitting in the rehersal studio or as loud as my SWR hendry the 8x8, but it has a lot more clarity and much better presence in the low B string than wiither of the other cabs I compared it to. I am impressed with how low this cab goes! I powered it up with the Genz Benz Shuttle MAX 6.0 as well as my Trace Elliot v6 to get a good tonal reference. I also did comparison against SWR Henry the 8x8 with both heads.

This cab sounds great and is very well made. The Plum tolex covering looks good too! I'd have to say it was worth the wait to get Don to build this custom cab!

Just a word of encouragement for those awaiting boxes: it's well worth the wait. My 15/6 continues to give me perma-smile. Having sold the M9 I'm using it with my Walkabout and a Geminidrive pedal. This stompbox is the best I've used for not losing low end when the dirt is engaged. It's basically OD and clean bass boost pedals in a single, blendable package. The 15/6 can easily swallow all the Walkabout can dish (only 175 watts) even with the pedal's boost, and sounds amazing. It may enjoy 500 watts and require that to reach it's max volume potential, but it is quite efficient and uber pleasing even at lower power.

As just a nostalgia note since we are talkin vintage here.
I squandered much of my youth at Fillmore west and SF Winterland. Bill Graham used to work the door, makin sure no thugs brought in anything bad, and would help set up the stage and on more than one occasion I saw him pick up a 2x15 JBL D140 cab by himself and throw it on top of another one for the bass stack of doom. Now we whine about schleppin lighter gear. Sorry for the OT.

You know it, Eric ! After 5 years of trying out many lightweight, neo loaded cabs, I've finally come home again.

Picked up my cab from Don this morning, and got a great look at his workshop. He literally is working in a very small space in his garage, which is stacked with plywood, rolls of tolex, parts , tools, a work/saw table and a large rolling cart. He has many old, vintage empty cabs stacked to the ceiling, and some vintage Fender stuff. Quite a collection. I can see where where he can get overwhelmed very quickly, and get behind with everything. But, as someone else said, it's worth waiting for. So here's my old school, LDS 2x15 with tweeter. K140's, a Schroeder type 200 watt, titanium bullet tweeter, black tolex, 3" rubber wheels, usual connections, and black metal corners. I love the wheels, better than any other type of caster I have ever used. The cab rolls effortlessly. Made with Don's 3/4 light plywood, it was a breeze to tip into my Scion xB, no problem. It weighs alot, of course, but it seems way easier to lift and maneuver than any other 2x15 I have ever used. Ahh, the smell of new tolex !
