Last Thursday, I was rehearsing for a Sunday church service gig... I was playing a bass recently acquired in a trade. A very nice Nordy with a Maple/Maple neck. I noticed along with the drummer and leader that some bottom end punch was missing...

I brought in my LEJ 5/21 and everything I could every want or need from a great bass was at my fingertips!!!

Played my LEPJ at Sunday service. Man, straight "P" growl. I don't play through house setup, so all cab. The other players were digging the sound. I played half in PJ mode and the other in straight P mode. I like the PJ better, but overall a good performance. Think I'm going to take the MM5's off and put Lo-Riders on it.

Sooo jealous diglo, I love the look of binding. I am very happy how the blue w/tort guard and abalone blocks came out. I need to get promoted so I can buy more gear lol.

Hey JZ,

My black 5er (the one in the classifieds) is mahogany/maple. I always get comments that it sounds like there is slight compression on the bass. It's just a very even, full tone that can be pushed in any frequency direction. If ash has the scooped mids and alder has the prominent mids, mahogany has the completely even response in the mids. The maple board seems to add a touch of brightness to this, which works well with the full sound pumping out.

Thx Mat, I had a Yamaha TRB 6P with a mahogany body and ebony FB that was similar sound-wise, thick even fat tone but it lacked high end sizzle. It's good to know that a maple board helps out in this area.
