LowEndLobster tone... how?

The Lobster is always a good watch. He's a good all around player and has a good feel for all techniques we want to hear.
I also like the guy who whispers but his slapping is great but his pizzicato is weak.
The other thing I look for on YouTube obsessively is guys that do "no talking reviews with either a drummer or drum machine". I'm a working bassist. If I can't hear what it sounds like in real conditions it's not really helpful...

Interesting advice, I’ve been around for a while but still label myself as a hobby player. I’ve always disliked rounds and put flats on everything.

I currently have the sound I always wanted in my head and Nickels are a decent part in that difference.

As for strings, if SIT Foundations are challenging to find, Dunlop SuperBrights are comparable alternative. Like the Foundations, they use a thinner hex-core wire to achieve a more supple feel than traditional hex-core strings (e.g. D'Addario XLs). I'm not the biggest fan of SuperBrights, but most people on TalkBass LOVE them. As for SITs, I've never tried their Foundations, but I remember really liking their Silencer compression-wounds, PowerWound and PowerSteel roundwounds, and their PowerFlats were my first experience with flatwounds. I'm glad I tried the PowerFlats and believe they're good strings, but stiff flats like those are not my jam at all.

Have you ever considered using a cleaner DI for your reviews? Don't get me wrong, I love your videos but a cleaner DI, like maybe a Radial J48, would perhaps highlight the differences between different basses even more, and possibly also be a better known point of reference for most bass players. You've got a great tone (most of which is probably in the fingers:thumbsup:) but using an amp, even the balanced output, will always color the tone a bit. But I guess you must have your reasons?

I agree. Ultimately, that's the best way to assess the pure tone of an electric instrument. Clean DI, into a clean "transparent" pre (even the stock ones in most decent interfaces would be OK).
I do get the appeal of using a little combo like he does as many people practice that way, but for recording that's not what you're usually gonna do - certainly not at the pro studio level. And even live these days an amp is more and more just an onstage monitor, and what people hear FOH is DI (with or without intentional colorization).
Now, if he's coming DI out of that amp, pre-EQ, then we're getting closer at least (I asked earlier if he's mic'ing the cab, DI, or whatever....).

OP, don't let posts like this convince you to buy a different amp. The sound you're looking for will be found in your hands and not through X brand of amp with at least Y watts and and Z inch speakers.

I use the Katana 110 as a practice amp and it can do anything I want. Definitely shakes the walls. It's perceivably louder than my Rumble 100, possibly due to the addition of the horn, or some other amp magic I don't understand. Let your ears guide you, not numbers or specs.

Well, I suggest at least trying a bigger amp. Physics always wins.
