That means whatever you, use the neck can only go to the 15th or 16th fret but I rarely go above the 12th

With those dimensions, you have a hypothetical max length of 74.3cm (Pythagoras is useful, see) if that helps at all
Mmmmm well 68cm as Pitagora teach but in reality (the given measures are those of the exterior of the bag) we should count 4/5 cm less
Rotation version 2
Had this little idea yesterday. Thinking this as a very similar solution of the one used by Snap Dragons guitars (as long as my suppositions about the functioning are corrects).
Intro to the picture:
The upper plate (neck) rotate on the lower plate (body) on a pivot huge screw (thinking about some hidraulic connector). Rotating counter-clock wise will make the upper plate "unscrew" herself and then will make the neck "going up" from the same level of the play position.
Even if with a rotation of 180° this system will make the upper plate lift up of about 2/3 millimeters only, is ok.
Besides, to give a sort of stronger contact between the 2 plates when in "play" position I'm imaging (but this is still very depending..) a sort of male/female "portions of a sphere" that will lock in the 2 plates. Maybe just my immagination but something that could give a little stronger bond to the join keeping it from rotating freely and produce too this nice "clic" when opened/folded.
A couple of guides/channeles on both the plates respectively however could be easier to build and equally effective. Without the clic.
More sketches to come. I'll try a 3d draw that I'll hope will explaine this idea better
