LYRICS! DROP EM HERE!

Thank you. my band mates thought it sounded too angry and depressing since Grendel eventually dies by getting his arm ripped off haha. "We're experimental/prog rock, Pat...we don't talk about people getting their arms ripped off"

Woops lol.

The essence of Prog is to do what everyone is afraid of doing, or can't do, and to challenge the listener's musical horizons and ability.

Hahaha, I'm actually pretty lucky. For the most part I've kinda been responsible for starting most of our songs and sections, so I know that they respect my opinions/abilities. This is just one of those things were they didn't and that's fine. Doesn't mean it was bad, which they also said, but it just didn't fit for everyone and I'm ok with that too. Doesn't mean I can't show it off to you guys for kicks :smug:

Yeah man. That's the plight as a lyricist. So many written, so few see the light of day. either they suck to you, they suck to your band, or they just don't work at the moment in time, and they later end up falling to the wayside forever.

Yeah, our last vocalist couldn't handle us constantly critiquing his work. It's tough for a lyricist because lyrics are really one of the most heavily scrutinized parts of the songwriting process in my opinion.. at least it's one of the things I scrutinize most heavily.

New song! First in a long while. Writer's block sucks. The song is about how the human mind's eternal longing for knowledge, and the soul's begging need for God, as well as the mental need to make a choice are what animate us. You know, get us in motion, one way or another, and drive us on, etc. Maybe not all applicable to a non-believer's life, but I think that it's pretty good.

ANIMATOR

Animator. Spark of life, spark of love.

Animator. Search of soul, search of mind.

Animator. Reaching down from above.

Animator. Within, outside, before, behind.

Animated in the image of the King.
Animated lesson, like a ring…
Endless.
Animated in our daily wish to be.
Animated in our constant wish to see.

Animator. Truth hidden in plain sight.

Animator. Motivated by our thirst.

Animator. It’s always fight-or-flight.

Animator. What comes in your life first?

NEW SONGS Day!!!!!!

I finally overcame my writers block. Two in one day! I'll put up the second one in a separate post.

WALLS

Don't generate a wall around your heart,
to keep it from being broken.
Don't create a barrier against,
the winds of change.
Don't fight as a rebel with no reason,
for the sake of your name being spoken.
Don't run away from faith,
for the fear of being wrong.

Don't wall yourself in.
Don't wall the world out.
Don't wall yourself in.
Don't wall the world out.

Don't create a battle line,
between you and other views.
Only one may be the right one,
but take everything in grace.
Don't make the universe your creation;
the gospel according to you.
Don't fight chains, nonexistant,
don't divide the human race.

(Daniel Graham, 2011)

Not the best I've ever written, but I like it.

Ties of Light

Abstract and unattainable to grasp in conscious effort.
The reason and the rhythm of Earth and all creation.
Some things must be taken with blinded eyes and heart wide open.
Some things have no proof, but are more alive than you and I.

*instrumental break*

Not everything can offer explanation.
Not everything is visible.
Everything, though, has started somewhere.
All the world radiates with ties of light.

*instrumental break*

Everything radiates with ties of light.
Everything radiates with ties of light.

Everything radiates with ties of light...

(Daniel Graham, 2011)

I really like the diction you use. My only SLIGHT criticism (meant to be constructive of course), would maybe be trying not to use the same word to start each line (like in Walls). But that is just my opinion, and it's difficult to say for sure when it's not set to music.

BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH

Here I'm hung for all to see,
too high for the ground down below me.
Far too low to touch the stars.
Far too torn to mind the scars.

And there you are; the very ones,
that with my sacrifice I've won.
And there's that same old cloud of fear.
I can sense the end is near.

But what is this the sky is black,
how can my Father turn His back?
I feel the contact, then the weight.
And time will alter on this date.

Between Heaven and Earth,
I see the end.
Between Heaven and Earth,
without a friend.
I won't even have my own tomb,
but I guess it doesn't matter,
it was meant from the womb.

I know I'll wake,
but it doesn't kill the pain.
I know I'm Him,
but humanity's still part of my name.
And here I'm fading, here I hang,
between Heaven and Earth.

To You, receive my spirit.
To You, receive my soul.
And I am one with You.
We've finished, met the goal.

Thy will be done,
Father and Son.
Bridge between Heaven and Earth.

Daniel Graham (2011)

This song's basically about Jesus thoughts as He died. It's kind of an insight into what the human side of Jesus was feeling, despite the certainty that He would rise again, and the conflict between His human panic and fear and His Godly understanding. It's always interesting, as a Christian, to think about that; that Jesus was human too, albeit not completely (according to my faith), and he felt the entire emotional spectrum, including fear, pain, depression, panic, etc. Believer or not, it is historically true that Jesus was a man who was crucified without reason for the lessons that He preached, and the challenge He presented to the religious and political hierarchy of the day, and He surely felt terror and pain as He hung on the cross.

Input appreciated.

I've also got another one coming down in a few days. This is a big one. about an album's worth of material in one flowing story. Basically it's 2112 length and then some. It's gigantic to say the least. Stay tuned
for Godzilla.
