LYRICS! DROP EM HERE!

Oh man, seriously busy (FINALLY) lyrically.

Todays song:

In the Wings

Wolf eat wolf,
eat lambs of innocence in the process,
of the war long fighting,
never ending strikes like lightning.

Brother hate brother,
pouring more hate into the equation,
of the spirit of a nation,
turning people in polarization;
left and right.

Stage left.
Stage right.
Fighting for the limelight.
Never caring for what's really right.
As long as you win the fight.

Some showmen live in the left wings.
Some reside the those to the right.
And after all it's all a musical:
people singing just to sing,
people fighting just to fight.

(Daniel Graham, 2011)

Politicians, don't you love them all. Seriously, I've seen more people arguing about stuff they have no clue about on Fox news and CNN, than anywhere else in the world. Oh the madness of it all.

If and when my band gets around to this one, I think I'll wear a mad hatter hat during it's performance!

I'm also in the process of a rock opera that will hopefully end up being condensed in the right way and made a completed musical. I've got the script writer who I'll be handing my newest project to all ready to put it together. But first, I HAVE TO FINISH THAT FIRST ALBUM WITH MY BAND!

I actually had no thought of Rush when I wrote this. I've been involved in writing that rock opera, which will be condensed to a musical later, and I'm in the school production of "Grease", so theatre has been on my mind a lot. I got thinking about how political parties are basically like rival troops of actors each fighting over the spotlight, always afraid and disgusted with their opponent in the other wing.

And as for the rock opera, give me a second. I'll have to have a min. to write the description for this one.

Coolio. In the meantime, I found these scribbled in the back of my school agenda:

Countless masses in the street,
Broken glasses under feet,
Burning cars in the night,
Blazing fires throw their light. (I musta wrote these lines about 6 months ago, but may be revisited in lieu of Libya/Egypt etc.)

Clock drags on in this prison cell,
Taunts the inmates in their personal Hell. (I may well have written this in Maths class...)

Sing me the songs of long ago,
Tell me so my children will know,
The melodies lost with time,
That tell the tale of this land of mine. (Spot the obvious Thin Lizzy influence!)

Very nice. I like that a lot. And yeah, the concept of the whole thing is:

a self-obsessed, vain and hateful rockstar named Leo Dantes that treats everyone around him with contempt. basically he's a total narcissist. One night, at one of his wild parties, a drugged-up friend offers Leo some hallucinogenic drugs. Thinking he can fly, Leo jumps from the roof of the 2 story warehouse in which the party is taking place, slamming into the ground below. His body ends up in the hostpital, with his estranged mother and high school sweetheart (the most pure and innocent woman you could ever think of) rushing to L.A. to stay with him. His soul, however, is in a different place. His consciousness awakens in a dark room, and he remembers his wild night of drugs. He wonders though, where he is. Torches spring to life, and Leo is welcomed by the Devil to a twisted, burning-up-hot, dark and eerie business office; the gates (waiting room) of Hell. Leo can't believe it. The Devil reminds Leo that in life, he'd always said that he'd "ride the highway to hell, if it meant he could have a good time in life". now Leo's time has come. However, to add insult to injury, Lou (as the Devil calls himself) takes Leo on a trip through some of his fatal decision points; among these an instance in which a beggar who Leo degraded and shoved to the ground in his hurry to make a date with his girlfriend, is shown to have been Jesus, taking a different form to test Leo. It is also revealed that Carmen Claire, a reporter he always seems to get stuck with who he hates for her "sermons" on his self indulgent and selfish lifestyle, is actually a bitter angel, assigned to his case, who has been trying to get him thinking about his life and change his ways all along. He also sees that his cruelty to his mother in the months before he left for L.A. at the reccomendation of a record label made her deeply sad, and even severely depressed to the point of breaking down and having to enter the hospital to make sure she would not cause herself harm. Finally, he sees his high school sweetheart, Teresa, in a dead end job trying to support her dying father and herself with nowhere to go. After all this is shown to Leo, Lou finally takes him back to Hell's waiting room, and opens the door to Hell itself, releasing agonizing screams of eternal torment and heat that would roast the flesh from a man's bones. Holding Leo in the doorway, Lou notices a newcomer to the waiting room. He glances at his watch, seeing that there shouldn't be a new arrival for several hours. The figure is cloaked. The Devil asks him who he is, and why and how he got here. The cloaked man stands up, and takes off his hood. It's Jesus again. He tells Lou that He "got the keys to this place long ago", and engages in battle with Lou. The Devil tells Him that Leo "gave me his life years ago", and that he belongs to him. Jesus responds, with a burst of light that sends Lou into his own fire, that He's "not done with this one yet." He creates an even bigger blast of light, and Leo wakes up, coughing in his hospital bed. His body is mangled, his ribs are fractured, and he is weak, but Leo is alive. He vows to change his ways, and does. He is a new man, and he couldn't be happier.

i was thinking egypt in the first one too, i think that means they're good!

I've gotten a pair of verses down just now. It's a little more, ermm, flowery? soft? geared for the ladies (in particular the one this song is about...)? But in a break from tradition, I've also written the music, putting in a chord structure and giving it a key (Fmaj), which is odd, 'cus I tend to write poems which we then try to fit to my guitarist's music:

I may be lost,
But I still found you.
I may be silent,
But my heart, it screams for you.
I may be drifting,
But I’m guided by your light.
I may be dying,
But with you my soul takes flight.

(need chorus!)

I may be down,
But I still have you.
I may be tired,
But I can chase after you.
I may be wasting,
But my legs can still run.
I won’t give in,
Until we are one.

And here's the whole thing:

May

I may be lost,
But I still found you.
I may be silent,
But my heart, it screams for you.
I may be drifting,
But I’m guided by your light.
I may be dying,
But with you my soul takes flight.

(chorus)
I may not be a lover,
I may not have a clue,
But I know just what I need,
And girl, I need you.
I may not be a rich man,
And I don’t know what to do,
But I know who I love,
And I’m in love with you

I may be down,
But I still have you.
I may be tired,
But I can chase after you.
I may be wasting,
But my legs can still run.
I won’t give in,
Until we are one.

(more choruses, as needed…)
And I wouldn't say she's lucky (yet...). Truth be told, I was kinda hoping on her being around today, so I coulda kinda say "what would you think if someone wrote this for you" and gof rom there... Oh well.

Hey Ed. I have finished an album for my band. That Rock musical thing is more of a solo deal. It's still in the works, but for the past few weeks, I've been writing a concept album for my band. FAR IN THE FUTURE. It's 22 songs long. :D

I'll shoot you a message with the lyrics if you want to read the thing.

I'm having an idea for one right now. I was trying to explain eminent domain to a co-worker. He didn't understand the whole concept about how we no longer truly have private property, because if a company wants your land and convinces your city council that having the company there will benefit the city more then having your home in that spot, then they can take your land away and decide how much they want to pay for it.

It one instance I heard of a family being given the same price for their land that their great great grandpa had paid for it in 1890.

I'm still working on the verses, so I'm not posting them yet. But the choruses are both to the tune of Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land.

This land was your land
But now it's their land
They have the money
So they have more friends
Your city council
Gave your land to them
And called it eminent domain

This land is Exxon's
This land is WalMart's
They used their lawyers
To take away your part
For generations
It was your family's
Now it belongs to a company

EPIC SARCASM!!! :D

I like it man. Though I wouldn't use the technical term in a song....that kind of feels forced/doesn't flow with the rest. NAME the song Eminent Domain, I think. Otherwise great.

and to Ed, yeah, it's probably my most extensive project. I think it's good though. Hopefully you'll get some time to read it and tell me what you think!

FLIES

Following in your footsteps.
Re-introducing your old lies.
We are you humble servants.
We serve thee, Lord of Flies.

And though we know it not,
You hollow us out with power.
And the day is fast approaching,
When all your will will be ours.

We buzz around in ignorance,
of how you use us as your voice.
To fool all of humanity,
and chain lambs by our choice.

Preying on the weakest beasts,
in wait of death and then our feast.
We are it's eaters, after all.
Passing it round from our towers tall.

And we struggle not against man,
but against prinicpalities and powers.
They all belong to the dark one.
You'll find in them, his stregnth flowers.

We deal the cards, with devils in the deck.
We want to cover up both planks and specks,
that blind men to your enemy.
Gotta' keep the truth where they can't see.

It's funny, we never even know we're being used,
how a kingdom divided, can work to keep souls confused.

Following in your footsteps.
Re-introducing your old lies.
We are you humble servants.
We serve thee, Lord of Flies.

We're the hunters who kill beyond the need.
We kill lost sheep so you can feed.
And though one man comes bearing light,
we'll use our position to end his fight.

We love your law of lawlessness,
so we give it to our land.
We will say there is no Satan,
as we become clay in his hands.

Following in your footsteps.
Re-introducing your old lies.
We are you humble servants.
We serve thee, Lord of Flies.

This is about how when gov't becomes more concerned with popularity than morality (such as today's gov't.) they become servants to the devil, in all reality. When you are not on guard against Satan, or careful not to let him influence you, he has a straight shot to your heart. As you can see, it is also partly inspired by "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding.

(1st Peter 5:8, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour")
