Macca's Union Jack Hofner

I read on the rickresource page that the 60 CT basses were already produced BEFORE the Jubilee concert; the bass for McCartney was made without his request, Hofner sent it to him hoping he would play it, and play it he did! So, these were in the planning a while back.

His Hofner is quite like the Queen in some ways; British on the outside and German on the inside!

Macca's singing voice was not quite perfect yes, but what annoyed me was his cheesy brass synths and such. For such a momentus occasion you would think he would get a real orchestra onstage, not just a dude with synths.

His readings of his old songs are just too close to the original records to be worth anything. They are bland, if somewhat perfect, performances of songs that he adds nothing too. He might as well be a hologram. It would be nice if he chopped and changed the songs somehow, but then again I do feel he has coasted creatively since Wings.

For being part of such technical and musical innovators, it seems surprising that a former Beatle would let his music, performance and wardrobe atrophy to the point that he has some dude playing the horn parts to Penny Lane on a digital synth.

the wrong kind of fanbase? That's rubbish. He appeals to all sorts of people and I think it's good he keeps the stuff original, especially the beatles stuff.

As for the keyboards I agree with you but maybe it was just easier to engineer without so many extra people for such a short set

He enjoys playing live and has a great little band that seems to get enough gigs to keep him busy. He has the resources to experiment with other musical styles from oldies he likes (Kisses On The Bottom) to electronica (Firemen) to orchestral (Liverpool Oratorio). He has certainly toured with larger ensembles (a string section with his current band, horns with Wings). Maybe he is just doing it that way because he wants to.

Not being a fanboy, just putting the other side forward. We're talking about someone whose legacy gives him the freedom to do whatever he wants.

I wonder why you would put it there in the first place. Anyway, I like the bass. And Paul's age is definitely showing.
