Made in Vietnam Ampeg

i mean, its almost 2010, you can practically make anything anywhere these days.

Now the Chinese are going to be building HUMMERS for us.... Are we going to require them to paint all of theirs PURPLE and ORANGE Barber Pole? Or are we going to paint ours P&O, to keep them straight?
They'll probably jump to 22MPG.

I realize they didn't buy AM General it's a joke.

As one of the many Ampeg owners who does not live inthe USA in the long run it matters not to me where it was made. I have a Vietnam VR and to date it has been 100% reliable despite regular use, travel and thrashing. I have owned several Harleys and do own many USA Fenders, but in the long run I just want a reliable product. Yes, I have a sentimental attachment to the USA but I must say that based on my own experience a couple of friends have bought Vietnam VRs and have both been absolutely delighted.

I got a chance to meet and talk with the bassist for a major, well-known band recently (and other members). Amongst other things, I asked him about his equipment. He uses Ampeg and said he is sponsored by them. He basically briefly ripped on the made in Vietnam Ampegs and then commented, "There's nothing like vintage." His rip wasn't in great detail, and I was a little tipsy at the time. It could have been he just didn't like the fact that some Ampegs are made in Vietnam.

I don't know if he uses the MIV equipment on tour, or just has tried it out, but I found the whole thing amusing.

I'm glad they're still making them too. Also I think the prices are fairly reasonable considering there's a smaller market for tube amplifiers.

Taking into account the inflation of the $$ they sell for much less today than original SVT's by about 50% less.

IMHO - the only reason ampeg is around is because they make these. But they created an image that they are only good from old style amps. Nobody wants their new stuff. New amp makers are making micro amps crawling out the woodwork and making a killing. Ampeg - tried the same and got nowhere.

Except I think ampeg is doing quite well with royalties from Ampeg SVX. This seems to be a top seller in the plugin market.

China and US for the Heritages. And as a testament to how much people really care about "Made in the USA," the Chinese SVT-CL's still grossly outsell the Heritage. Heritage does well enough, sure, but they still make way more Chinese SVT's than US.
