Made in vs Crafted in

Are there any technical differences between these two? And no, I don't mean the timeline. I mean why are American and Mexican built ones have Made in USA and Made in Mexico while the basses built in China for example have Crafted in China label on them?

I'm only guessing here. Crafted in is supposed to imply that it was not carelessly slapped together in an anonymous factory. In other words, no matter where the instrument was made, the workers can be skilled at their craft. Essentially, it's all about marketing the product.

The subjects I came upon were about the "Made in Japan vs Crafted in Japan" thing and the answers revealed that it was about the timeline. Did not come upon a more technical point of view, sadly (I hate tons of the same threads too).

My guess is they changed it to avoid the (now diminished) stigma that used to be associated with the phrase "Made in Japan," which was once synonymous with "junk."

I did a search in titles for MIJ CIJ and came up with tons of threads. You are correct, I did read that one was older than the other, but I was thinking along the lines of differences in quality.

"Crafted" sounds as if much more meticulous hand labor was put into the product than the mass-produced "made". So yeah, what Gaolee said. Nothing but marketing.

What interested me was the "Crafted in Indonesia, Designed and completed in the USA" at the back of the head stock of Lakland Skyline basses. The wood and electronics were American, I suppose. If the same thing applied to Squiers, we would know that.

Made in Japan indicates that the guitars were made by the Fujigen factory. When Fender changed factories, the contract with Fuji required the change in wording to Crafted in Japan. I have 3 MiJ and have played CIJs and they are of like quality, very high
